Huh? Resident Evil 4 is the best game in the series, by far. It transcended the brand and ranks as one of the best console games of all time.

WTF. We are just gonna have to agree to disagree. Resident evil 2 was by far the best in the series and basically defined the genre. Resident evil 4 is a pile of ____ with a crappy story and just your typical action game that was way over the top. I did not deserve the resident evil name.

The story of all the Res. Evil games is convoluted and over-the-top. It isn't Metal Gear-level ridiculous, but it's not what I would ever stretch to call great storytelling. But you don't play Res. Evil for the story, anyway, so who cares?

I think Resident Evil 4 may be the finest action game I've ever played. However, to me, it does not follow in the spirit of what Resident Evil originally was about, and it makes me sad that they've just played down to the lowest common denominator and only make technically impressive shooters, because that's what the masses want. Fun games, though, no doubt.

I did. I loved the stories from the early games. Four isn't my favorite game, but it did bring the series back to mainstream after the drought. It seemed so long between Zero and Four. The only thing I don't like about the games since Four is that its no longer about Zombies. The Chupacabra or whatever the heck they are don't hold up to the creatures of the earlier games.

As for the Capcom and Microsoft thing, it should be noted that this might be something exclusive to Japan.

The producer of RE5, Jun Takeuchi, said in an 1up.com interview a while back that RE6 will completely overhaul the series:

However, no one is sure if he'll be the producer of RE6 (not even Takeuchi himself), so take what he says with a grain of salt.
