Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I don't believe anyone in here has claimed it best film of all time.

Oh I'll definitely put myself in the "best superhero movie of all time" crowd. I'm not going to say where I think it falls with regard to best movie of all time but for ME it is *definitely* one of my top 3 films of all time, instantly. Such a great movie. So many instantly iconic moments. The opening battle on the ship. The elevator scene. Cap vs. the Quinjet. Fury's SUV chase. Bucky catching Cap's shield. The first highway showdown between Cap, BW, and Bucky. Bucky sitting all half lit and badass in Pierce's dining room. Bucky pummeling Cap. The "Gravity" ending. Even little things like Cap's list and a number of lines of dialogue throughout. All upcoming superhero films are now going to be looked at from the point of view of how good TWS and judged accordingly.

ASM 2 and X-MEN: DOFP? Be afraid. Very afraid.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

You know, for something to "absorb" kinetic energy, the force applied to it has to be inferior to it's friction coefficient and mass, so the shield can only absorb as much kinetic energy as it's mass let's it, it's not about what it's made of, it's about its mass, vibranium only makes it indestructible, but the shield is not indifferent to kinetic energy, it's an object that can change it's state of movement...don't you think Cap's arm generates kinetic energy? By your logic he should not be able to throw the shield, since the shield should absorb said kinetic energy.

The shield absorbed the force of the grenade's explosion it's mass let it, the force was still superior, then Cap's body absorbed some more, yet the force of the explosion was still superior, hence why Cap got air anyway.

The same thing happened in avengers with the chitauri grenade.

The shield does absorb the energy, that doesn't mean it won't move.

Your logic flys out the window when talking about Caps first encounter with Thor in the first Avengers movie.
A grenade violently throws Steve into a bus but an angry Asgardian Thunder gods hammer (that was forged in a dying star from Uru metal that was also enchanted by Odin)strike isn't enough to budge Steve?
Mmmm yeah.........no.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

"To throw myself under the bus", this is the first movie I've seen in 3D IMAX and it was really distracting. The glasses are terrible and uncomfortable to wear so much that it's hard to fully immerse yourself in the movie. The movie was great!!! Will see it again in regular vision not this gimmick 3D nonsense. I have a question about the scene at the very end of the credits, who were they?

Scarlet Witch and her brother QuickSilver.

Scarlet Witch and her brother QuickSilver.

Thank you!!!!!!! I was like Xmen?:lol My knowledge is weak. :rotfl

Also I wish Cap would stop throwing his shield away first thing when he fights. Also how the hell does it work like a boomerang? I got home and practiced for hours with a friz bee and could not get it to come back to me. :slap

No Xmen in this Marvel universe. Mutants are made not born.
In this case Von Strucker and Hydra gave the twins powers via Lokis scepter but the "How" is unknown.
Did you see the second credits scene with Bucky?

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

It's called Comic Book Movie physics, that's probably why it didn't work. Cap also throws it at things and it bounces off and returns that way, guessing his super strength and the shields properties allow Cap to use his talent to throw it just right and hard enough to allow it to ricochet.

Yes! That was the nerd test. :lol So they are both bad guys then?

With the universal praise this movie is getting I'm sure it's only a matter of time before those who gave it an 8/10 are labeled "haters," those who gave it a 10/10 or 11/10 are called "Russotards," with those who gave it a "proper" score of 9/10 playing both sides against each other....

Did you read that somewhere or is it just an assumption? Did they mention on the movie that their powers came from the Scepter? On AoS there are clearly "mutants". Not to the same level of Xmen, but their abilities come natural.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I mean seriously guys... if we are getting into shield physics why does the shield bounce off of some walls and embed itself in others? I mean if it can bury itself in a wall surely it wouldnt bounce off the back of a goon? The fact is it doesnt matter. The movie is phenomenal

I agree, there are plenty of cool scenes that scream multiple viewings.

I am more than happy to welcome this into my elite group of

STM 1/2
89 Batman
Spiderman 2
TDK
Avengers

I'll definitely catch it again on the big screen! Not as many times as you but still. :)

And I hope everyone can stay calm and just let this movie rank with those and not get their panties in a bunch because someone thinks it's better/worse/equal to any of those (yeah right :lol). There are enough *awesome* superhero movies now for everyone to have their favorite without it needing to be a big deal to anyone else.

I'd give it higher than an 8 but I wouldn't give it a perfect score either. It is worthy of being praised IMO. I mean I saw it twice this past weekend.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Do you think they will ever tell more of the Black Widows back story? Like that she has the serum in her too. Also what are the chances of Wolverine and Spider-man showing up somewhere down the line.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Somewhere down the line? 100%. Now? 0%. The only way I see Marvel getting the X-Men back is if Jackman retires. He's literally Fox's biggest draw, when it comes to those films. Spider-Man, eh; he's a different story, since we haven't had the same guy for fourteen years. Sony will probably keep him, so long as they're making money, so, it really all depends on that one.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I caught this one Saturday. It was an extremely good movie, significantly better than First Avenger IMO. Winter Soldier himself was great, Cap was great, action was close to great (will get to that. . .), the political intrigue stuff wasn't bad. Thor 2 and Cap 2 have both raised the bar in my view, so I'll expect GOTG and Ant-Man to try their damndest to reach it. My one major quibble is the shaky cam used in the fight scenes. The fights were clearly very good, but could have been so much better if we weren't being tossed around by the camera. I was really glad to see an approximation of comic Arnim Zola, with the camera head and video face on the "torso." Very odd he would be willing to commit suicide for the greater good of Hydra though, so I suspect he had his consciousness downloaded and moved elsewhere. Hopefully he will appear alongside Baron Von Strucker (and maybe Red Skull?) in a later film or films. I also enjoyed Shandling's cameo. Wasn't sure we would see him again. And Dr. Strange was mentioned!

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Quick question. I dont have time to scan through every page of this thread, but were there any oher post credit scenes after the Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver scene? Had to rush back home to relieve babysitter, as the film was longer than anticipated.
