That's the irony. Gender neutrality gets mistaken for a trans issue, but trans people *want* to identify as a gender.
On one hand we're told gender doesn't matter, on the other we're told it very much does.
Gender neutrality is actually a sexual equality issue.

It gets more complicated when you take non-binary individuals into account, whom to my knowledge are not identifying as a gender unless you want to get really semantic and create a 'third gender' -- I don't know, maybe they have. It's their business at any rate. I'm a boring cisgendered hetero-normative male.

In an organism as complicated as a human with billions of genetic instructions and all of the possible combinations thereof, in a population of 7.9 billion such complicated organisms, it's not a big mathematical stretch to imagine that it's not always that simple.

A person's gender self-identification shouldn't be classified as a 'mental illness' just because you can't imagine their internal state. My own wiring is pretty much standard issue, I don't pretend to understand profoundly different ways of being, but I will defend an individual's right to be themselves provided it harms no one. Being different causes no harm.
Next you're going to tell me sexual orientations other than what's classified as heteronormative are mental illnesses. That was struck from the DSM years ago, and good riddance to that. Nobody wants to live in a world without girl-on-girl action.

Yep, think I?ll actually go ahead and say the real mental illness is demonstrating hatred for someone who is different than you are for no other reason than the fact that they are different.
Some sad, miserable, hate-filled people out there.
Must be absolutely painful to wake up every day angry about the lifestyles of complete strangers.

Many cases of parents forcing an identity onto their child. Many cases where it is a mental illness. Many cases where people truly do feel like that. I’m not hating those last two groups, but some do need actual help instead of being pressured to changed.
