Hello chaps, new here and the work I've seen is amazing! I'm after a Capt Barbossa to go with my Hot Toys Pirates. Can any of you wonderful fellas help me out? I'd really need someone to do the whole thing, head, clothes etc. Or I'd be happy if 2 or 3 people could do a bit each! Please help my out as I just don't feel right without him on my shelf!
Thanks and Hello to you all!
The Capt.

Going to be tough. I've wanted one for awhile myself but haven't gotten around to it.

You probably need to start looking at the obvious places for parts:

Other pirate figures.

Check loose parts for Hot Toys, NECA 12", and the Zizzle 12" line.

Hello Ash! Well I thought boots from Hot Toys Will Turner and Shirt from the Jack, but past that I've not found anything I'm happy with. Hoping someone could make me something! I understand it will cost a fair few quid, but I'm happy to pay to get it right. The Hat I guess will be the hardest bit, that and getting a good head done. Any of you guys fancy taking the head on?

Would love a Barbossa.

A long, long time ago, Shawn over at Sovereign Studios was beginning a Barbossa project but it never materialized.

Besides the sculpt, the hardest part -- which is even harder than getting someone to do the sculpt -- is finding the correct waistcoat and jacket. The materials would be very expensive to get the right look. And Barbossa's coat has those unique sleeves that are open and tied. Not easy. Then there's the hat. Again, tough. Maybe need a sculpted version. Perhaps Coco would be up for making one. There's also the unique scabbard. Not as tough as the others, but getting the right buckle, etc, is again something that might need to be sculpted.

Boots, pants, undershirt, sash, sword, all can be cobbled together.

There's my two-cents.

I'll check in with Shawn to see what ever happened with his Barbossa.

Cheers fella, most kind! Yeah it's the hat that really worries me. And it is such an important aspect of him too. You never see him without it!
Such a shame hot toys let us done on that one. I love there stuff but they don't seem very good at following through.
I look forward to hearing back about Shawn, thanks again!

Yeah, HT's follow-thru really ticks me off sometimes.

Anyway, I PM'd Shawn to see what happened to his project so hopefully he'll get back to me a day or two. He's been absent around here lately.

I'll check with Coco too and see if he thinks he could make that hat. He makes a terrific Nicholson Joker hat out of a felt-like material, which would work well for Barbossa. Just add a real feather and you got it.

Wow thanks for all the help! You're a gent. When I was a lad my Gran used to make clothes for Action Men from felt, bless her she was a great old girl! Made me a great 4th Doctor outfit with a cool scarf.
Cheers mate

What be the preferred expression on the head sculpt?

neutral? smiling showing rotten teeth?

Mmmmmm hard one that!I reckon smiling showing rotten teeth would be the winner though. What do you think? He should have an un-dead monkey too. Don't know where to go for that.
I guess the bead will be the hardest part of the head, it's so messy and straggley!

I'd love to hear who people think is the best person to commission to do the head? I had a head from Ada once before and was quite happy, felt the paint job let it down somewhat. Any advice would be grand!

Based on a convo with a friend, my vote would be head tilted back, eyes wide...as if having just given a witty retort and awaiting an answer from Jack.

But I wouldn't even begin a project like this without having a lead on Barbossa's jacket and waistcost. I think that's the heardest stuff to do right, and the most visually necessary items. The hat, scabbard, etc, doesn't worry me as much.

We NEED A TAILOR on this site sooooooooooo badly. Think of all the work that person would get 'round here.

There is someone on here that has his Mum make clothes on commision but I have no idea who that was again...

It's Spenser. But his mum isn't for hire. :lol

I know of one other person who does tailoring work but he's never posted that here and doesn't seem to have an interest in mass customs.

Sovereign again makes wonderful clothing bits, but again seems to have little interest in making clothing only.

It's tough to find someone who just likes to make little clothes.

I do pretty good with a needle and thread on smaller jobs but I know nothing about patterns and material, otherwise I'd take this job myself, dammit. Carve my own useful niche here at the boards.

Here's the head I did. Be kind it's ANCIENT interms of where my sculpting is now:rotfl

As far as tailors, I'm surprised no one has thought of me. :monkey2 I sew, from time to time :duh

I might be able to tackle a Barbossa figure, when my schedule loosens up a bit. I would want to resculpt the head, though. Would give me an excuse to bring back my Jack, anyway.

A 1/6 Tailor would be wondeful, you're right he'd be a busy man indeed! Reckon he could make a living from it even! I was thinking about the waistcoat last night, it's a beaut for sure, I like a double breasted number! So many tricky bits to sort, trust me to want something hard to do!
I like your head idea, that would be a good one I reckon.
