Sideshow just posted notice that UPS and Fedex will be increasing shipping rates beginning Jan. 1. This will definitely impact all of us collectors. As if there wasn't already enough shipping issues, now we can expect to pay even more. :(

You better believe I'm crying because collecting is expensive enough already and the rate increase may limit my purchases even more. I'm going to have to be more selective about what I collect now more than ever.

well that sucks a lot to all. I live 10 miles from where Sideshow ships and I want to take away all shipping and go pick my figures up. :monkey2 :monkey2

Good time to make this announcement, now that the price per barrel of oil has dropped below or around $60...

Analysts say the "terrorism threat" has increased the spec price per barrel from a normal 35 to around 60. Do you think for a minute Fedex or UPS will lower their rates anytime soon if that perceived spec price lowers?

Didn't think so... this does affect many decisions, especially for heavier items like PFs and statues so it may be a bummer for a lot of people. For me, it makes almost no difference because I live in L.A., even though we Ca residents pay state tax, but I am feeling the pain of others, hang in there kids, make smarter and better decisions and you should end up with pretty much what you want whether you buy it from SSC, DSC AE or evilbay... :D

Um... Norway! :D

um... I didn't know...
If we have to pay either 60 or 70 for shipping, it doesn't make THAT much different. Not enough to cancel tons of stuff anyway...

I really don't see that the price jumps 200% or more...

Well Pordey, you must have unlimited financial resources to not care but most of us here will feel the pinch of increased domestic rates. I can definitely see it affecting my purchases, in fact, I have had to not only pass on, but also cancel a few items this year already because it has cut into my funds and this means that I can expect even tighter funds next year. It may mean I have to sacrifice one or two more figures I'd like to have in my collection. So I guess now is the time to take advantage of those holiday discounts and gift cards for purchases we've been putting off.

I have a problem with it. It's already expensive to ship. There's the 50 bucks to ship, Customs charges, plus UPS charges 40 bucks per 100 dollars value in brokerage fees and they want to raise the shipping cost!! Sideshow should start using the post office. At least they charge less and they don't charge brokerage fees.

The first thing to suffer when times get tougher are always toys and collectibles. :monkey2 I just hope the companies in China don't hike the price of plastic as well. It's made from oil aint it? Might be a double whammy a comin.

SSC doesn't do pick ups.

The amazing Aimee once told me a story about a guy who worked across the street from SSC and couldn't pick his item up :lol
