Makes me wonder where did all these super cash rich collectors pop out from  Guess the majority of us are just no competition.

It's pretty funny that the artists that sculpted the statues didn't even knew that they made something called "Artist-Proof" statues...At least Brigitte Wuest didn't even knew they had made Artist proof statues!

Or do they mean that it's the painters who make em "artist-proofs"?

I was surprised with the WK true form. Thought it was going to be the ML. Might have to bid on it!

The SS website still says "The Morgul Lord (Witch-King) Statue" and the pictures also shows the Morgul Lord. However, the auction shows the pictures of the "Witch-King of Angmar". I've sent them a message through Ebay asking for clarification.

Good point there! :D

To me AP are no big deal. I have read that AP could even mean an unnumbered replacement of a damaged statue. What I really would have liked to see was something similar to the other Sideshow lines up in the auction. Artist Samples! An original sculpture by WETA sculpturer themselves! Some of the Maquettes for Balrog and the Trolls look incredible. I guess Sideshow doesn't have any of those and only offered AP. I have all those statues, so I pass.

It's for a nice cause and might stoke the market for the LOTR weta stuff. I still love those weta statues and hope it will have a resurgence again as having some desired value.

Ditto to that... if the piece is made by the artiste OWN hands and PAINTED by his or her own hands too, that will make some value!

I never got the point of paying more for an AP.

The only AP I've got (WiKi TF) does not look any different than others I've seen, even when I've heard AP collectors (or should I say "sellers") claim the opposite - i.e. talking about "superior paintjobs" and such...

This info is from Spaceman's auction tracker website where he advertises the Sideshow auctions:

As a note, the "Artist Proofs" are created as a small separate edition from the standard numbered issues. Generally, they are reserved as special gifts for artists, friends and business partners. Physically, they are identical to the main edition, apart from the designation as AP on the baseplate. Their heightend collectibility arises from rarity on the market rather than any discernable difference in production controls.

(Of course, this is not to bash the Sideshow auctions, just to add to the AP discussion.)

Well - Glad to see there's still alot of interset in these pieces.

Congradulations to skyrdie, who won 3 out of 4. Guess he already had Cavie.

skyrdie, are you here?.......yoohoo....

Hope he can get some overtime, he's had an expensive week! :lol
