Censorship question in ssc Q&A

Who wants to bet that the 'concerned parent' doesn't care at all about Mystique casually wielding guns on SS's PF statue, while being all upset by her pert ass (I'm allowed to type 'ass' on these boards, right?)?

Sex bad, violence a-OK is pretty typical of certain religious conservatives (in contrast with those feminist with an anti-sex attitude who would condemn the violence/power angle too).

Hmmm ... I have two younger kids, both under 10.

My wife refers to some of my lady statues as "****y Women" when people come into my den, and my daughter joins in on the fun. My wife then goes on to make good fun of the well-endowed ladies by asking any child, or adult that comes in, how they can possibly protect someone, and we all have a bit of fun.

Point is that this art based on some important men's idea's in comics is just what it is: fantasy. My wife and daughter recognize that, and their humor always brings the reality that it is fantasy, and indeed funny.

I thought that Sideshow's answer was excellent, and I hope we can enjoy more of our beautiful art

I understand that the sculptures tend to to be true to the original artist's drawings of the females so I address this to the artists: I agree that both male and female characters are drawn to be strong muscular sexy etc. My particular problem is with the current way that most female superhero's breasts are drawn nowadays. I hate the over large breast implant look. I don't like implants, the top half of a woman's natural breast should be somewhat concave, slopping downward. Most of the breasts are now drawn as huge double D implants which look like two big round melons. The new Scarlet Witch has horrible oversized implants. Why not beautiful breasts that have a nice gravity induced slope? Am I too old? Are natural breasts so uncommon now in mass media that all the young guys who are buying the statues and reading the comics only think breasts look good if they look like basketballs? Also, why the hell do all the breasts come in one size and one shape for most of the female characters: 38DD melon implants? Why not have some characters with more natural curves. Personally, I've seen many perky 34Bs that do alot more for me than these un-natural beach balls. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with large breasts but what really matters is the way they look and feel and great look and great feel comes in all sizes. I know this is kind of off the topic of censorship but I'm curious how others feel about this.

the NATURAL human form is a work of art, and should not be messed with too much. fake-looking ****s are such a turn off.

What is it that you are doing to your statues? Maybe I don't want to know.

I could care less how realistic or natural it looks. I just admire all the curves as an overall look, I don't just stare at the ****s when looking at the statue. If we're going to get into this level of realistic looking vs. natural looking, we should excuse the waist that is too small, the gadunkadunk that is too big and round, the nose that is too small, the eyes that are too large, etc. etc. etc. Incorporate all those realistic features, and you have a pretty boring statue IMO.

Same argument could be made for romance novels, imagine putting your average either weak/scrawny male or overweight male on the cover with his balding locks flowing in the breeze, think you'll sell many novels to horny women? It's fantasy, we all know that and are okay with it.

I think most of us are mature enough to know that most women don't look like this body-wise, at least not without a lot of plastic surgery, rib-removals, nose jobs, and we shouldn't expect them to or even want them to. But I still like how my Marvel ladies display looks regardelss of whether it's realistic looking or not.

Well truthfully if it somethings weren't censored on this board I would never be able to check it at work. Some people can get fired for anything considered pornographic on their computers; whereas at home I could give a crap. So in general that bit of censorship is a wise decision IMO for the board. Not saying a photo of a sculpted **** and nip is that different than a live one, but to many employers it is.

As for the question to Sideshow, it is a pretty dumb one. These are clearly not aimed at children in any way shape or form. I'd be more worried about Bratz toys than AH! statues

I have the same problem. I can and do visit the SSF site at work, and know now not to go into the "art appreciation pinup style" thread because I don't want my work seeing those pics on my PC. Some of thesandbox threads I wish I hadn't visited while at work. but my cubemate somehow links to swimsuit models and half naked models through yahoo news and another legitimate news site, so I figure I'm not the only one or the worse of the bunch.

Of course we all know its a fantasy. What I'm pointing out is that the "fantasy" has become 38DD gravity defying beach ball implants. What I'm saying is I would prefer that the fantasy be 36D naturally slopping or 34B perky. And a variety of sizes and shapes. Does every super female have to have the same exact implants?

Great analysis, I totally agree. That has been the biggest hurdle in 1:6 female figures. Other than Sideshow bodies, female figures with natural breast and even remotely realistic proportions have been completely non existent until Triad Toys announced its EVA figure (which might finally arrive some day).

That trend of hypersexualisation of women in East Asia is hard to overlook as a major influence on Western comicbooks/toys. The big-****s craze has turned me off several Marvel pieces I would otherwise be very interested in. I think companies like SS want to play it safe and thus cater to what id perceived as the established 'norm', even if a different approach might be more popular.

bigger kittens or smaller kittens, doesn't really matter to me. i'm a overall sculpt buyer and completest. so if it's part of a line i'm collecting and even if it looks like shat (which hasn't happened yet), i'll still most likely purchase it since it's part of the collection.

i'll probably catch some slack over this, but i actually perfer the sculpts of aspen/turner or Moore for no other reason than they are some what less scanky and seem to have a bit more class to them.

It's funny how there are such double standards. Some of the women in this thread need to really stop and think about it. They dismissed your comment bolded above as "well that's fantasy though." Hypocrites!!! WTF do they think the comic book women are?!

Who the **** would want to buy a bunch of Superheroine statues sculpted like Janeane Garofalo?!

If people are buying $300 collectibles for their young children, I'd say that's more an issue than anything. I know it's all relative, but still. Almost ALL of sideshow's product are geared towards adults. Further, I don't think they are sexist, and I don't understand why they would be interpreted that way, outside of maybe some of Adam Hughes' art, and even that I wouldn't consider sexist as more respecting the female body. Just my opinion.

Plus, what's the big deal? As they said, Sideshow aren't out there to change the world. They don't have a huge influence on people's decisions.
