Craig under Nolan's lead might be really really interesting:

Christopher Nolan Says He’d Love to Direct a Bond Film
Posted on Friday, July 9th, 2010 by Peter Sciretta

We don’t usually seriously report on the wish-fulfillment stories where a director or actor says they would like to do some mythical project. As it turns out, it almost never happens and is not much more than a cool headline with little substance. And yes, this is one of those stories, but when a filmmaker like Christopher Nolan comments that he’d be interested in doing so and so film — there is a bit more weight to the statement.

You see, Nolan is very particular about the projects he chooses. Also, he is a director with great power. After Dark Knight, he probably could have had anything he ever wanted — any project in development anywhere. He chose Inception, an original project that he’s been developing for nearly a decade. And yes, he’s set to go into production on the third film in his Batman series. But what about after that? How about a James Bond film?

Nolan has been commenting a lot recently about James Bond, as Inception is certainly influenced by the series. Speaking before last night’s London premiere of the film, Nolan admitted that not only would he be interested in doing a Bond movie, he’d “love” to do one.

Nolan told the BBC:

“I’ve loved the Bond films since I was a kid. For me, they’re always about the expansiveness of cinema. The first Bond films set up infinite possibilities about the world they create. I’d love to do a Bond film.”

With MGM in limbo, recently it was rumored that the twenty-third Bond film had been canned. That was not actually the case, as some reports claim that Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig still plan to come back to Bond once MGM’s situation is resolved. Who knows when and if that will happen.

I’ll say this much, if I were an executive at Warner Bros, I would place a call to Nolan and ask him just how interested he is in directing a Bond movie. I’m not even going to pretend to understand the complexities of the legal purgatory presented by MGM’s current situation, but I’m sure there is a way to make it happen. And at this point, Warner Bros is in the Chris Nolan business. I ‘imagine that the goal is to extend their relationship as long term as they possibly can.

Doesn't seem like a good fit. I mean, Nolan can do just about anything and do it well, but I don't see the point in having him wasting his talents on Bond. That's not a slight on the Bond films, I love 'em, but what else could be done with Bond that hasn't already been done? We don't need another reboot, and if it isn't a reboot, what about the character in it's myriad incarnations would Nolan want to explore that hasn't already been? They should really just hammer out the legal issues and get back to Mendes' and Craig's film.

Wasting talents on Bond? Bond needs more people with talent helming the films! Martin Campbell made a film so good, It was almost perfect. And then they got the dude who made The Kite Runner....yeah....

I dunno. I don't think Nolan's style or his boundless creativity would gel well with Bond. Bond doesn't really have anywhere else to go. He's a character that is limited to a fairly strict formula and studio heads won't want to deviate too far from it. Nolan should just be left to his own original intellectual properties or continuing his Batman story.

If he made a Bond film that toyed around with narrative chronology like his Memento, or was a puzzler like The Prestige or the mind-bender that is Inception, then I'd be all for it. But would you think MGM or the Bond handlers would let him get too wild with their biggest money maker?

It worked for Warner Brothers when they gave him Batman :dunno

They restarted the entire franchise, Bond has so many new places to go. They threw out that formula.

Yes, but Batman was a reboot and told a large, then unknown (in cinema) part of Bruce Wayne's past. Bond already had a successful reboot not long ago. Do you think it's really necessary for another reboot?

No, it's not a new formula. With the Craig reboot, they just made the formula less rigid, more fluid, but it's still there. Bond is still an MI6 agent, there are still pretty cars, pretty ladies, M, a nefarious villain that will be taken down by the end. Everything in between is like the new, modern mortar on top of the foundation.

What would you have Nolan do with that?

Fair enough, but if that's all you want, then I think any skilled hired gun would do.

And like Daikken said, Nolan's too busy anyway.

Good enough. They really need to rethink a few things after the mess that was Quantum of Solace.

Shame, as Casino Royale was a near perfect film.

Keep this pretentious hack away from Bond. It's bad enough that the guy can't direct an action sequence to save his life, he insists on doing all the second unit work which means he won't allow the action scenes to go to capable hands.

I literally dread how he'll suck the fun and spectacle out of Superman.

Even if action isn't Nolan's forte, I don't think he could do worse than Marc Forster (Quantum) in that regard. But I still hope he doesn't do a Bond film.

I honestly dont think he will do a Bond film but if they did give him a chance at it he would make it freakin awesome. The man hasnt made a bad movie yet and judging by the early reviews for Inception, which some reviewers called it his Masterpiece, why wouldnt you want a Nolon Bond Flix.
