Hey, this is Brandon Nielsen. I’m an artist and I want to show you my progress with Christopher Reeve Superman bust statue. Hopefully I can get this whole thing done before the end of this month.

It’s a work in progress. This is what it looks like now.

I had to do just basic stuff on the body first to make sure the whole proportion of the bust is measured properly.

I’m thinking of arm cross, or hands on hips. I think hands on hips will be best since I’m not gonna make a copy of this whole statue.

With the use of Apoxie sculpt.

The head is casted by my previous Christopher Reeve head sculpt, because my original sculpt broke so I had to do a lot of fixing on the head.

Did some small modifications here and there on the new head. It’s hard to tell if the head improved or not, because of all the green clay.

I’ll be posting updates on this soon.

A lot of failed attempts with my sculpts sometimes. Happened in the past and still happens now. Today, l wanted to create a smoother chest sculpt so he wouldn’t look too muscular, then I wanted to try using a sculpted or raised S shield. I should’ve made the clay film a lot thinner. For some reason, it caused some bubbles inside the film of clay when I added it on the surface.

Anyway, I first started making a reversed S with stacked paper, so I can “stamp” the little S cardboard onto a thin film of clay. Problem was that I did it too soon, so the clay got stuck on the paper and I had to start over and waited for clay to dry up a little more.

And when I successfully stamped the S shield design, I was happy with the result.

Problem is, the S shield seemed too thick on his chest, so I had to do plan B. Cut out the diamond shape on the chest.

Then tried to add the S shield back on… now, it still looks like crap. Well, I guess I’ll have to add more clay to the shield here and there to make it look smoother.

Taking forever to add slabs of Apoxie putty on this. Just taking my time so I don’t screw up the sculpt.

Those white hands came from my original sculpted hands I did several years ago. I made a copy of them because I didn’t feel like sculpting another set of hands that have this size.

Also happy birthday to Christopher Reeve!

Been slowly sculpting this bust statue. Taking forever to get it done, but I want it to have a nice, smooth finish after I sand the whole thing. Finally got the basic body sculpt done, now I have to a fix a few things here and there to make it look quality before I paint it.

It’s so hard to sculpt something like this with a so much apoxie sculpt. That stuff takes forever to dry and harden.
