The Indy License is out for takers

From THR today re: Licensing Convention taking place at Ny Javit's Center

Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing, said the Lucasfilm division also will be looking for licensing partners for the summer 2007 release of a new "Indiana Jones" video game from LucasArts and the summer 2008 release of a new "Indiana Jones" movie.

"We're looking at the game as the equivalent of a film launch," Roffman said. "It will be a major event."

Man, I hope that doesn't mean we'll only get a geriatric Indy from the new film.

SSC has earned the right for their Indy license IMO. I mean, how many SW items have they punched out for Lucas in one year? Many other lines took a back seat to churn them out.

For a long time the Indy license was thought to be "ungettable" due to Ford's reluctance to have his likeness reproduced. But the fact that CMQ has obtained those rights makes it seem likely that other companies will be able to as well. It's a no-brainer to assume that SSC would be campaigning hard and heavy to do so, especially considering they have an established relationship with LFL.

See I think it's Lucasfilm that has held in the reins for Indy, likeness schmikness. Star Wars figures and the crappy Disneyland merchandise has never been stopped by Ford. He has no say. I believe Lucasfilm is gunshy with Indy because there "is no media or film to support merchandise" which is load of crap. Hello 1995 SW POTF figures anyone? Indiana Jones is the most important film franchise next to SW, and everybody is hungry for awesome Indy figures. Let's hope something comes thru unlike the "The Legends of Indiana Jones" figure prototypes that were made years ago. :monkey3

Lucafilm is actively licensing Indy now. See previous post...

I have no doubt that we will soon be flooded with Indiana Jones product.

I only hope that Sideshow gets in the game early...and that the figures will be from "RAIDERS", as that's really THE Indiana Jones movie and probably the only film from which I will "collect them all".

I don't want an anime Medicom Indy or a cheap $20 Zizzle Indy. I'd go with Hot Toys, but I think SS would do the job best.

Cue music...

I see that, I am talking about previously in the past.

Gotcha, yeah I agree, they never realized the value to license Indy product earlier for some strange reason. May have been that the Disney license hadn't expired as they made 8" and 12" Indy Theme park product til '05.

The stunt show merchandise was pretty generic and they didn't even make an attempt at likenesses. That was probably a completely different license than the films.

this is very true Dave. i bought one of the "authentic" indy jackets from them when i was a teenager only to be really dissappointed when i found the Wested versions online. lets just say the Wested was the best investment yet.

It was the license for all three Films which answers the past licensing issue. They also made vehicles and they looked very accurate, Tank and ROTLA Plane. The Theme Park Indy figures were exclusives and included 5 and 12 inch figures of the generic mass market type.

Agreed Wor-Gar! Sideshow HAS to get this. They would be the best choice to tackle this franchise.... no contest. No anime or Zizzle Indy for this large license!! No, only SSC could do it justice and give the fans what they want.

Every collector I know has been DYING for some good Indy licensing to come along. It will sell out, it'll make money... And the point will forever be proven that GOOD Indy merch will always sell..... always.
