Actually, now that I think about it, Captain Jack sparrow STILL does not qualify because the first Pirates of the Carrabean film wasn't made until 2003 ! And he STILL is not tough, right? :gah::gah::gah:

Oh well, welcome Jack Nicholson, goodby again Captain Jack!

I was going through my spares boxes earlier and I came across this Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver head sculpt, it's the one that came in the double pack with the regular hair version. Then I remembered the patches I had made and glued onto an old TUS Airborne jacket and after I eventually dug that out, found him some boots, jeans and a shirt I figured I would have myself a little Travis Bickle photo shoot.

You did a great job on DeNiro, Ichy...I also like the detail that you put into the dio! I find that good dio's bring out even more realism in the figures themselves...good job!

Love all the new editions and really digging the thread title change. Took a few more pics of my Duke figure as Sheriff John T. Chance in Rio Bravo.

Man, that's a nice looking Duke you have there, DA. The nice thing about this hobby is that there are so many different positions and backgrounds that you can put them in. The opportunities are endless, which makes it fun to see how everyone interprets theirs...

I think "Rio Brsvo" is classic John Wayne, much more so than "The Searchers". John Wayne represented American heroism; the role he played in "The Searchers" was more or less an exception to the parts he played. "Rio Bravo" represents him much better...now all you need are Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson...:wink1:

Has anyone ever seen or done a Cool Hand Luke or any other Paul Newman custom yet ? I would love to see one.

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

That's a great question, Rdeezy! I know I've seen sculpts of Paul Newman and also Newman and Redford as Butch and Sundance (Peter the Painter has those I believe). I've never seen any pics from anyone who has bought them and used them. I considered doing Cool Hand Luke once but got sidetracked and never got back around to it...maybe will do him someday...

In the meantime, has anyone done, or seen pictures of someone who has done our buddy Paul Newman?

Thanks Geronimo for the compliment. I would love to put together Martin, Nelson, and Brennan to go with him one of these days if the opportunity presents itself. That would really be some set up having all four together in a jail dio. :hi5: In regards to which movie represents him better depends on the coversation, or topic really.

In Rio Bravo he plays the big tough Sheriff against all odds to save the day and fall in love with the beautiful girl at the end. This is considered the typical John Wayne movie throughout most of his career, but not necessarily the best representation of him as an actor. I would agree that Rio Bravo best represents the Duke playing himself and not a character in a film, if that makes any sense :lol. When it comes to his acting though, that is where the differences of opinion come into play. This is where the Duke in The Searchers really separates himself from those other movies and is why it stands out as his best work.

In that movie The Duke doesn't play the typical do the right thing hero that saves the day. Ethan Edwards is not a good guy and does whatever it takes to satisfy his own interest & desire. He is a loner, racist, killer, and thief that is driven by vengeance through out the entire movie. He does show a heart and compassion in the end, which is why I love JW movies. Not a typical character John Wayne played, but one of his best performances in his career. It is definitely classic Wayne though and many regard The Searchers as his greatest work. Whenever somebody asks me what John Wayne movie they should see, I always go with The Searchers first, followed by Rio Bravo, Red River, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, etc., etc... :wink1:

Fair enough, DA...that makes sense...

My favorite JW films are:

1) Sands of Iwo Jima

2) She Wore A Yellow Ribbon

3) The Shootist

4) Three Godfathers

5) Rio Bravo

6) The Searchers

Gosh, there are so many of his films that are so good, and I haven't even yet included them (The Alamo, The War Wagon...on and on). There was only one John Wayne...!

And how about Rooster Cogburn!

So true. He has so many great movies it's hard to choose a favorite, but I have watched everything you listed at least 10 times each. :lol

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

We spent the weekend in Palm Desert California(a long drive from Sedona AZ) and we visited Joshua Tree National Park, another otherworldly place. It was quite beautiful.

We stayed in a Moroccan themed Hotel and to my surprise in one of the common areas they were playing "Casablanca" 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. I suggested to the management that they alternate that film with "The Road to Morocco". They didn't like the idea, they said Hope and Crosby weren't exactly romantic enough.
