I would stay away from Windex. I used it on old plastic molds (like computer parts) before and it would clean it up real nice but I also tried cleaning an old rear projectioon TV with it (yea stupid of me) and it took more off than I wanted like the antiglare coating! So paint might be at risk here. Like everyone one said try it on an area that is not as obvious to test for risk of paint removal.
I nowadays use none of the off the shelf cleaners but something called Pink Solution and I can't recall but there is a US brand equivalent. This is somewhat natural and does wonders for cleaning everythign including my laudry in my house. I just can't say it will work best in your situation

My stuff is and will always be in my bedroom and I've unfortunately always allowed my g/f to smoke. For longer than I care to remember I just assumed everything would be fine but reading these forums has made me completely obsessive about the issue. I can't ban the smoking now, t'would be too disruptive to certain activities, but when everything is back out of boxes (where most of my stuff is at the moment) I'll be doing everything I can to shield my toys from the smoke.

As someone who grew up in a smoking household, there is absolutely no real way to shield anything from smoke, if smoke is allowed in the house. Trust me, I spent long painful years trying everything and anything to keep my things/clothes from smelling like smoke, and there was always a trace of it on everything I owned.

No one is allowed to smoke in my house or in my car, no matter what.

I hope you're wrong. For the figures I have out at the moment...most of my 1/6th collection actually...I just have them covered over by bubble wrap when the g/f is around. Only thing is shes not here all that much lately due to her mums ill health. Anyway I can't smell anything untoward off them.

Dude smoke gets into any cracks. I used to smoke but never inside any indoor buildings. I can only say that now that I quit 4yrs ago I can smell smoke on my clothes even when I hang out with a friend who smokes outdoors! I guess only thing you can do is get one of those airfilters maybe one of those Sharp plasma. I also have seen Costco carry the Ormek? airfilter now? I have used a commercial version of that in my old cafe before and works very well

The smell lingers, even when no one is actively smoking in the house. If you live there, you get sort of used to it so you don't notice it as much as a non-smoker who isn't around smoke.

I wouldn't notice it, either, until I was at a friend's house or something, then I would notice my clothes had the smell, even if it wasn't terribly strong.

I sold something once, back when I lived with a smoker, and even though it was sealed in box, and in a room with door always closed, the buyer said they could smell smoke on it.

Smoke smells are the worst. I sometimes get parcels delivered and I can tell the guy has been smoking in his van as the parcels are stinking. I have to unwrap them straight away and get rid of the rubbish as it stinks the house out if it is left.

Sadly I'm not in a position to ban smoking in the house entirely as I'm a sad basterd still living at home  Might have to see about the air filters.

Oh I just recalled the brand was called Orek and had some infomercials runnign on TV as well but selling at Costco sometimes with an IR so keep an eye open on those. Like I said those should actually filter the air through electrostatic and the filter can be washed! I remember when we had these similar commercial units when the filter starts getting too dirty we would always hear these zapping noises scaring the shiet out of our customers :rotfl You can actually see the sparks flying :lol
Just don't try any of those solutions that tend to just spray chemicals out and cover up the smell.
So you actually do not smoke, but your entire family and GF?

That's understandable - I was in the same boat.

Honestly, that's been the best thing about having my own place. Whenever I get stressed about not being able to collect like I used to, or get frustrated with bills vs. money for everything else, I just remember I don't have to live with smoke anymore.

It makes one hell of a difference in my mood, I can tell you.

My mum, one brother and my g/f are all smokers. The fools. My brother is particularly bad but luckily I'm not sharing his room! I once left a few 'expendable' McFarlane figures in the home cinema room of the old house...which then had to become his bedroom. The figures were discolouring and stank the place out when I boxed them up for the house move...haven't checked them since. But that was serious, concentrated cigarette smoke exposure in a tiny room, every day and night. Its not nearly that bad with my g/f but I fear even limited exposure will ultimately have the same effect.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was at one time using spray airfresheners that claim to get rid of odour rather than just covering it but then what if they contain chemicals that could damage my stuff.
