Just got this today along with Qui-Gon. This book is awsome!! So many cool facts and info that I would highly suggest getting it. A real treat for SW fans for sure. One of the cool things is the two new extra items with Qui-Gon are featured in the section about him. So I got to learn a little something about those items. Not to mention it's got Yoda on the front which is awesome!

nice!! i saw this at B&N on sunday. i have all the other ones that are out so i might wait until this goes on sale before picking it up. does it have stuff from all the movies??

Yes, it does. It just explains some really cool stuff. Like why Mace switched lightsabers. It also shows the lightsabers Kit has, Plo, etc.

cool. ive read all the information on why Mace switched lightsabers... its an intersting story if i remember correctly.

Yeah, this didn't go really indepth but just a quick this is why type thing but so far I'm enjoying reading through it.

I have the individual copies done for each movie, but if there is enough additional material in the combined edition I would consider picking it up.

Not having those I can't say. It's really thick and is supposed to be updated so I would guess it does.

I have the complete Star Wars Fact files, that were released here in Oz, on a weekly basis from the newsagent for about 2 1/2 years!
In all it totals about 10 A4 binders worth of info.! God knows how many pages, but, at a rough guess, around 3000 pages.

They never got these in the States...I actually had a friend, that I bought an extra copy each week for, and posted them in lots of 20 to the US.

But, they have everything in them...except episode 3 stuff...These finished just before ep III was released...I thought they might do an up-date series....But, so far, nothing..:monkey2

Cool book. I ordered the new Darth Bane novel--hoping for it to arrive soon.

If you want a good reference book you might also want to check out Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels or the Original Trilogy, both of those are great books with pics and info about almost every character and many props, with multiple views and such. It's kind of expensive but it's really worth it--very large book and it's really high quality.

I have both Chronicles books myself. They are really awesome. Exspensive but awesome. They have so much info in them it's amazing how much they cover everything I swear. I love books like that cover all these things you see so you know more. That's why I love the appendices in LOTR and the history of ME books. You learn so much.

I believe the shelf price is $40. That's what I paid at a "brick and mortar" Barnes and Noble last week.

I've always loved these books and even though this simply collects the others with a few new pages (R2 and Sarlacc, apparently) and some text changes, it's still worth it to have everything in a single tome.

So how does the visual dictionary compare to the Chronicles books? Is there info in the dictionary that isn't in the Chronicles? Or is it the same basic information, just condensed and presented differently (realizing that the dictionary is from DK's "juvenile" line)?

DK's books are just that... "juvenile" compared to Star Wars Chronicles. Yeah, they have some neat pictures for reference but Chronicles is worth the money. You get THOUSANDS of reference photos and information. It's the definitive "Bible" for Star Wars fans. One of my best purchases. I cherish it.

I don't know. I can check tonight when I get home and let you know. I would venture to guess it's just a more simplified approach but I don't remember the stuff with Qui-Gon in the SWC as far as the little accessories.
