I think it goes beyond his accent. His expressions and his vocabulary joined with the accent to make him really bring out a brainless barbarian.

Well I finally watched this movie and I thought the Arnold version was way better. It had more story and more heart. The new one just had better special effects but that's to be expected. But it was basically mindless garbage.

1982 Conan for the win.

The new one had a decent story to work with, but it definitely lacked heart. The problem was that there were none of those slow character moments the Arnold version had that gave you time to care about the characters. It was just battle, battle, battle, sex scene, battle, the end. We definitely needed to see some of the journey between him being a kid and a full grown man.

I finally watched this, now to set the mood - I totally expected to hate this. When i saw the preview I thought it looked like it would have a chessy made-for-tv kind of vibe.

I gotta say, I was very impressed with it overall though, it reminded me alot of the old comics and the videogame from a few years back. I would love to see some sequels, but I'm guessing that may not happen?

but yeah, I enjoyed it alot.

I just saw the new Conan Film and I give it 2 of 4 stars only fair. The child hood actor that played young Conan was fierce and well played but once he grew up-not so good. I'm a fan of Momoa from Stargate Atlantis and Game of Thrones but he was hollow as Conan and the script did not help. The film did some things right the fight sequence with the conjured Sand warriors and the temple set designs of the ending but I had to remind myself at times that I was watching a Conan movie. Arnie's Conan although not perfect imo is still the best attempt and as mentioned, the great Poledouris score helped which is another thing that Momoa's film seriously lacked. Lots of Gore and action does not make a film great it has to have heart and make us care ! Still awaiting a true Robert E Howard Conan Film...some day. (sigh)

As I mentioned in the rate thread, I expected to dislike the movie, but I found it to be OK.

And I actually think it is done better, for all of it's faults, than Arnold's Conan. The Arnold version was too much of a clown.

I think they could build on this one if they had a mind to.

But for me, the very first thing they would need to do is get rid of Conan's mascara.

Momoa was an excellent Conan, but the movie wasn't good. I'd like to see him get another chance at the role with a better script.

Mamoa was definitely closer to Howards vision of Conan than Arnie.

Absolutely! (and I do love Arnie)

Shame it will never get the sequel it deserves, because this really was a great Conan flick. Could have been straight out of the books.
