Confirmed. Only one LOTR PF (Uruk Hai Berserker) to ship in 2009

Alright, a question I submitted was answered. Wasn't the answer I wanted, but it was an answer nonetheless...

From today's (5/6) Ask Sideshow:

Q: In your Ask Sideshow dated 4/22/09, you confirmed the number of remaining Star Wars Premium Format Figures being announced in 2009 as two. Can you do the same for Lord of the Rings Premium Format Figures? Legolas was recently announced, but will there be more LOTR PFs announced before the end of the year? Additionally, will the Uruk-Hai Berserker PF be the ONLY LOTR PF that ships in 2009, or do us LOTR PF fans have something to look forward to at Comic-Con that will ship in 2009? Lastly, is Boromir on the drawing board for an LOTR PF? Perhaps in full Gondorian Armor as depicted in the retaking of Osgiliath in the extended version of The Two Towers?

A: We intended to say that one other Star Wars Premium Format figure, which is in fact the recently announced Count Dooku PF, would *ship* within 2009 or very early 2010. The Legolas PF is planned to ship early 2010, and is the next LOTR PF release to ship (after the Uruk-Hai Berserker). Several LOTR PF’s are planned for release in 2010, but we cannot yet confirm the exact number - development plays a major role in the timeline of all LOTR products, as they do take considerably longer for development than other product lines, due largely to the nature of the costuming. Boromir does appear in our planning, but the release date is very much to be determined.

Yeah, I guess that's the silver lining. I was hoping for at least one more LOTR PF to ship this year, but at least my wallet will get a break.

"Several LOTR PF’s are planned for release in 2010". That's good news too, I guess. Hopefully the Uruk Hai Berserker PF will be awesome enough to tide me over until next year.

Thats fine. I'm quite selective now with PF buys so I can wait. Boromir would be a PF I'd get so I hope to see him in 2010.

Pretty well par for the course. We get on average about 2 PF's /year and with only one shipping this year perhaps 2010 will be the first year where we get three. Especially with Legolas coming early in the new year. I imagine we'll get our next PF announcement during Spooktacular or B&W Friday.

Great to hear confirmation that he will show up in the PF line one of these days! But I will scream if they give us the armored "TTT cameo" version from Osgiliath instead of his iconic FOTR appearance.

Glad to see some LOTR pieces coming out inbetween PF's as well. It helps 'feed the fix' until the next big release and allows the funds to buy it recover!


I think it's time for a Boromir vote off as the SS site gets plenty of ideas submitted for what it should look like. I am firmly in the wounded, kneeling Boromir camp, the other main contender seems to be the armoured, banner holding, Osgiliath version (only seen in the extended DVD version). So if anyone wants to open a 'Boromir PF - Which version?' poll, I think it would get a good response and points put forward and may help influence SS's decision as they use such forums to guage opinion (don't want to hijack this thread for the (imo) needed debate).

My guess is we'll see a new PF announced at SDCC, with an estimated shipping 2nd quarter 2010, then maybe another announcement around Spooktacular with an estimated 4th quarter 2010 shipping. That'll give us two for 2010. A 2010 Toy Fair announcement would put us into 1st quarter 2011 shipping, much like with Legolas.

According to your own calculations that adds up to three PF's in 2010, with Legolas being the first one, early in the new year. This lines up with SS's own comment on the subject "Several LOTR PF’s are planned for release in 2010"

No doubt his happiest moment but I'd say his finest hour was defending Merry and Pippin to the death. SS seems to be mixing it up as far as LSB's are concerned, giving us a Rivendell Aragorn and Helm's Deep Legolas so far and I could see them eventually doing a Gondorian Boromir in LSB form......but an Osgiliath Boromir PF is never going to happen.

Totally agree...perhaps a fighting Boromir PF then? Just before he died
