Funnily enough i never had the RROD it was that stupid disc is dirty error.
fan's not working , hard drive not working , power button not working.

I would prefer to wait an extra year or two so they can test and more test the consoles.
As i think the 360 was just rushed for Christmas before they could do proper quality control.
And i fear the same may happen again.
Also you should not have to install your games to make the console sound quiet as my xbox sounds like and aircraft carrier taking off.
We my PS3 is almost silent.
I will get both consoles eventually PS3 this Christmas and Xbox next.
Just hope they release good original titles and not sequal's .

I'm a bit on the fence as to whether I'll keep my PS4 pre-order. $499 is a lot to pay when it's bound to have a price reduction in several months. In addition, there are likely to be bugs and hardware problems, as there usually are with every launch.

I've had dirty disk errors too, but only from a few used games PS2 and PS1 games. I try to buy all of my games new whenever possible to avoid that headache.

My Fat 80 GB PS3 is super-quiet, except on hot days when the fan goes full powered, and it sounds like a vacuum cleaner :lol.

thermal paste would have prevented that plis. told peepz a milli.

I'm tempted to look up YouTube and try that. Just as a good preventative measure.

I've not had any failures on either my PS3 or 360 so far *knock on wood* but I got both my consoles late in the game. Got my 360 a few days after Xmas 08 when MS started using the Jasper chip and the RROD became less of a problem and got my PS3 right after the first PS3 Slims came out.

I did have an original Xbox crap out on me though back in the day.

2 Ps3's died on me & I had 2 360's which both were fine but my 1st 360 ended up sounding like a Rocketship launching once you turned it on so I bought the 360 Slim.

Two red rings of death for me.

I remember back I the day when systems never died. My PS2 was a tank, never cleaned it, full of dust in the vents. I dropped it down the stairs a couple times too, no problems.

My original 360 red ringed several times before finally dying. My replacement has been a good boy.

Zero. Atari 2600, Commodore 64, Genesis, PSX, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii. Never a problem with any of them.

My original Xbox 360 red ringed got it fixed and a 3 years later finally died. No issues with my elite or gears system.

It's easy to do on a PC but seems like a hassle for consoles. But I'm aware that consoles uses cheap thermal paste and it WILL dry up eventually. Oh well.

My PS3 died on me once. Ordered a brand new laser and fixed it myself. No problems since. I own two PS3s, both doing fine for roughly 5 years now.

Exactly, it doesent matter how long, its when. I just assume do it every year. These new systems really get hot. Im tempted to do to my ps4 what i did to my ps3.

It runs totally quiet now. Relubed the gears in the bluray when i replaced it.

I know how to fix PS2s and I've dismantled a fat PS3 a few times. Is it hard to do on a slim, Jason?

As a person who's fixed consoles before, it's quite astounding how much in need of inner maintained these consoles need. I've even cleaned the lens of the PS2/Fat PS3 with alcohol and got a huge performance boost.

I've never had a console die on me. And I've been consoling since the Atari 2600 days...

That said, my PS1 was getting a bit temperamental as far as disc reading goes just as I was moving over to the next generation of consoles back in the day.

not at all ryan, the ps3 slim is about 10 big pieces and about 6 jumper cables. the design is very simple to work on. the blueray drive is not too difficult either. a person of minimal tech skill should be sble to swap out parts if they just pay attention to how things are as they disassemble.

Yes it is. Youre talking about when it already breaks. That doesnt happen with the new paste, its called preventive maintenance.
