Thanks for the pics darkmummy :hi5:

I've been going back-and-forth about buying this ever since it was announced.

I STILL don't think we'll ever get anything better for this creature, but the size, cost (courtesy exchange rate & import duties), and now these photos, have finally convinced me to pass.

I'd certainly buy both heads + stands if they decided to release those separately though (do they ever do that sort of thing?)

I hope everyone getting this is blown away when they get theirs.

I saw it several times for real. It's big and stunning
My only concern is that there is a seem line at the back of the dome.
you can see it on the pictures as well, if you look at it.
My guess is that this is the demo version that has been built/unbuilt and exposed several times.
I just hope they will fix this and I am pretty sure they will :)

Thanks for the new pictures etc! It looks glorious and I simply can't wait to have this beauty in hand. Spike, out of interest, what is it about these pictures that finally made you decide not to buy it? I'm as picky as they come with regards to Aliens and Predators, and I fall in love with this thing a little more every time I see it.

Good to hear it is impressive in person. Regarding the seam line, I wouldn't have been worried until the ID4 bust shipped with huge seam lines where the head and arms join. Let's hope they clean it up on this although I hadn't noticed it, where is it?

Not to your liking Spike?

As you both know, I've always been on the fence regarding this - for the reasons stated in my last post.

Those reasons haven't changed really.

  • Size - I can find room for it no problem, but I'd have preferred 1:4 (would 100% have bought at that scale).
    .
  • Price - original price is VERY VERY good, but adding postage + import tax + the "new" import duty KILLS this when you use the current (and trending) exchange rate.
    .
  • I really don't like buying off Sideshow (it's not a showstopper, but leaves a bad taste every time I think about dealing with them again).
    .
  • The latest photos (& video) show angles that (given how uncommitted I've been) were enough to help me come to a final decision.
    .
  • I'm still hoping (against hope) that they may sell either of the busts + stands separately.

My collection is stupidly huge now. Seriously - it's insane what I've spent over the last 12 years. With the exception of ONE garage kit, there is NOTHING that has ever been released (prepaint / garage kit / action figure etc.) that I am left wanting to own.

It's got to the point where something has got to tick all the right boxes, blow me away and then beg for a 2nd date in order for me to go for it. This came close, but I'm going to move on to the next one round the corner.

look at darkmummy pictures. the 4th one I think.
You have the dog from the back. Notice the roundy shape caused by the lights. just under you have an horizontal line of light. It's a seam. hard to guess on this pictures but again, I saw it several times and it's clearly visible in real.
Hopefully they will fix that

Gotta be honest - not seeing any seam on the pic. I also re-watched the video - no sign of it there either (on EITHER head) :dunno

BUT - if you've seen it face:face then it's there.

I would expect the domes on the production pieces to be cast as 1 solid piece - someone should check with them just to give you all piece of mind.

What’s this ‘New Tax’ please? [emoji85]

Doesn't affect you bud - our wonderful Canadian government introduced it on collectible statues just for us lucky folks :)

.

Phew for me, gutted for you! Damn! Why on Earth have they done that? This planet is a joke!
They keep the middle class poorer and the richer richer! Can’t keep up dude!

It's the classification code Canada Customs have told Sideshow (and a couple of other companies) to use for collectible statues.

Sideshow have been using the codes inconsistently . . . some result in zero extra duty, the nasty one adds 6.5%

Of course, per the UK (with VAT), we also pay REGULAR tax (12% for us in BC) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_Canada

Take the increased prices of the items themselves, add the increased shipping costs, add the original taxes, add the "new" duty, THEN convert via the increasingly crappy $USD:$CDN exchange rate and the net result was ZERO statue purchases for me in 2017 (I returned the 1:2 scale Wolf Predator LSB when it turned out to be made of recycled supermarket bags).

In fact, the last "collectible statue" I bought was back in October 2016 - the CoolProps 1:1 Predator 2 bust (THAT was worth every penny!)

Wow *******s got you Canadians also. That sucks considering you live across the road lol. “Recycled supermarket bags hahaha that was mint lol”

It’s taken me a few weeks a few beers also to say to hell with it I need this statue regardless of the stamp shipping and import duties. When I get that quote to Australia I will need a stiff whiskey neat [emoji31]

Heavy metal spikes > you will see it better on pictures I took myself some time ago...

This is a seam line on the back of the head.
Quality of the pics are not great, but in real, it's clearly there and visible

That's the thing - without KNOWING it's there, folks would be hard pressed to ID that as a seam from photos/video shared so far - looks more like a light reflection.

It needed someone like yourself that has actually SEEN it to warn everyone. I'm surprised it wasn't pointed out by others who have viewed it - maybe it's just really hard to spot even face-to-face unless you look for it?

Anyways - thanks for the advice & the pics again

- hope someone follows up with PRIME/CoolProps about this to put everyone's minds at ease.
