lol i agree connery is the one and only bond although i was just likeing brosnan untill die another day

this guy is a good actor. he was in "the road to perdition" with tom hanks. a good film everyone should see if they have a chance.

i'm open to this guy as bond. he'll only be as good as the script, so hopefully that will be well written. the next bond film can't be any worse than the last three. :sick

i hope with the new bond, the producers take the opportunity to make bond more realistic and geared towards a mature audience. i'd love to see an "R" rated film with more violence and nudity, as opposed to the cheese we got with the recent films. :naughty

I saw an inteview with Martin Campbell (the director of Goldeneye & the upcoming casino royale) today whilst he was promoting the new Zorro film & he said they were looking for a young Bond & this film will be Bond's 1st assignment after his MI5 training & you will see him make mistakes but by the end of the film, he will be the suave Bond we all know.
Rumour has that Ewan Macgregor turned it down as he only wanted a 1 film deal. So Daniel Craig must have signed a 3 film deal. I expect all 3 Daniel Craig films to be set before Dr. No in the Bond timeline

I love this choice for Bond. I wasn't a fan of Brosnan, mostly because the movies he was in weren't that good, and also, because he looked like he'd get bummed if he broke a nail.

This guy looks like he can take a punch, give it, and still be suave for teh ladies.

And don't worry about him being the 1st "James Blonde"- I'm SURE they're going to dye his hair...

I read on CNN that the annoucement was made by boat.

So it seems pretty official.

All I can think to say is- I wonder how much makeup will be on this actor to play James Bond in a Casino Royale story.

I thought I read that the story as penned for the movie has a 29 year old double-o seven. Will this guy ever be able to pass for a <30 year old? Oh I don't ever doubt hollywood makeup effect artists, but ... that's just it...

makeup.

Well, time to read the books!

but by the end of the film, he will be the suave Bond we all know.

Depending on how suave he is.. that could really sucks lemons. But I can pressume that if the story in Casino Royale is harsh enough to garnish an R rating.. . oh what? they'd never do that.. okay well depending on how realistically violent it is, and how cold they make the character Bond to be, they may make more movies with him being more like the books. :)

In the books he isn't a spy so much as an assassin- The 00 department revolves around assassinations. :D

I just hope they make the movie at least almost as violent as the book. Oh and if the dialog is good like in the book.. especially the conversation between Leiter and Bond about fighting the good fight and switching sides to being evil.

arrrr I gotta shut up about this. I have too many opinions and I am a major bond fan. I hope for the sake of entertainment that this movie is well directed and well written.

I'm surprised at some of the hate for the Brosnan films. I thought they were all pretty good, especially Tomorrow Never Dies.

Bleh. The Brosnan films relied too much on action, and not enough cool spy espionage. From Russia With Love has some AWESOME espionage action. THAT'S what I want Casino to be more like, personally...

Even though I am not a particular fan, the Bond franchise has steadily got more and more ludicrous... so I am glad it finally gets the dose of reality it badly needed!

Guess time will tell whether Daniel Craig can re-invent Bond and be universally accepted at the same time. I don't expect the movie will rake in the kinda money Brosnans movies did, but that's probably because the audience would rather see huge explosions, unbelievablely stupid stunts, tacky dialogue and ever-apolcalyptic storylines. Oh yeah throw in the token baddies, and bimbo bond girl...and a box of popcorn. ZZZzzzZzZzzZzZ.

Finally we get to see Bond how he was supposed to be portrayed, and not some glorified Romeo.

Finally From Russia gets some love.........2nd best Bond film as Goldfinger is 1st

Heck, I'm more bummed that they got Martin Campbell to direct another one. BLEECK! Isn't there a better, more edgy director to helm one of these pictures?

I was really jazzed when I heard that Quentin Tarantino wanted to helm this film. His vision was to make a bare-bones gritty spy film WITH Brosnen as Bond. But like with everything when it comes to Tarantino... it was all talk.

But THAT would have been cool! :D

Frankily, I think the studio botched this one. I think that should have signed Brosnan for ONE LAST BOND and play it up... make it the center of the marketing blitz. And THEN go on a well-publicized search for a new Bond.

It would have given the Bond series some dignity.

The Bond series has always been ludicrous, that's a big part of it's charm. Outlandish villains with ridiculous machinations, the silly Bond girls (except for Michelle Yeoh, she kicks butt), Connery "disguised" as a Japanese man. Making Bond realistic would be terrible in my opinion.

From what I have read on the web today. It would seem they are trying to start over so to speak. The producer Michael Wilson said that neither Q nor Moneypenny will be in Casino Royale as they were not in the book. It would seem that they are trying to stay closer to the source material. I also read that Craig 37 is the third youngest actor to play bond. Lazenby was 30 and Connery 32. I am not sure on this choice but I will give him a chance.

I'd agree that Martin Campbell directing is more disappointing than Craig being cast. If they REALLY wanted to reinvent the character they'd have taken a chance with a young Turk ala Bryan Singer or Chris Nolan.

But I've always been a Bond fan, since I had to sneak out of bed and watch the midnight movie with the sound down cause the 'rents thought Bond films weren't appropriate for good little boys.

Face it everyone, there will never ever be a Bond that can compare to the original. -everyone else that tried the role was nothing more then a wanabe.QUOTE]

The first is the best? So, that means you liked Gene Nelson? ;)

I'm not sure if anyone could take an accurate James Bond. It is funny that those who call the loudest for an accurate JB also hate the most accurate movie -OHMSS.

In fact, if the stories were made time period accurate; the gadgets would be comical. I am reminded of on gadget that Bond was issued- an electronic tracking device, which used VACUUM TUBE technology. :)

Then there are the discriptions of Bond by Fleming that clearly depict a NON-blonde.

Maybe in 100 years there will be an audiece for it. Not now. Too many Moore-with-the-silly-gadget fans out there.

My thoughts

On Bond.

Good luck to the `New Bond`,but the Bond Franchise is now over (IMO),with EON saying No Moneypenny,Q,Gadgets and the rest of the PC stuff what`s left...............Another Jack Bauer or Jason Bourne cliche.!

It`s fine bringing Bond into the Modern age,but it`s that what made the Bond films what they were and stood out from the usual stuff.
Bond declined after `LTK` and the long wrangling before `Goldeneye` (which is Bronsans finest outing) and then it went downhill all the way,More `Super Action`,PC, and no real Bond soundtrack to speak of (Sorry, big Barry fan),and apart from Campbell no descent directors (again IMO),and this was their idea of bringing `Bond` into the 21st century, now take away the above-Disaster.

Casino Royale is the right choice, but not `Bourne Supremacy` style.!

Brosnan returns for `Bond` 22 ,`Never Say Die Aagin`.Lol
:naughty

Just my thoughts anyway.

BTW
Grew up with `Moore` films. :horror

Bye JB :peace

The biggest dissapointment for me was they didn't go in a REALLY new direction. I was pulling for Jack Black or Madonna in the lead role. You know, something really different. Ahh well, another missed opportunity.
And whatever happened to Quentin Tarrentino directing?. We could have had a geek, enough blood to make an ER Nurse faint, and enough scatolgical language to make any swabbie blush. Now were talking!
And Rupert Everett as the first "gay" Bond? I don't mean Everett is gay (but I believe he is), but he would play Bond as gay. That would have been fabulous. Maybe Tarrentino could have directed that project.
You know kids, it can always be worse. Every one of those things I (except Jack Black, that was my idea) mentioned was speculated on seriously by fans after being put out by studio people. Scary stuff.

Of everything I've seen stated so far I agree that Sean Connery IS James Bond and Ian Flemming agreed as well. But he's too old now so I guess I need to "get over it". But originally they wanted to cast Patrick Magoohan and I think the "new" direction may just be back to a similar character actor to the Broccoli's first choice for the role. A cold rugged tough guy with a different kind of appeal to Connery's or Brosnan's. I very much doubt Bond/Craig is going to be written as a fop in this picture the way most of the Moore stuff was or whiny jerk like the Dalton flicks. That is a huge plus.

As concerning the lack of love for "From Russia with Love". Yup, it seems strange to me too. I think it was the best film in the franchises history which is not to take anything away from "Goldfinger", also a wonderful film. I think FRWL had the best scripting direction and performances of any of the films. "Goldfinger" has hands down the best theme I think. And the coolest car. Nearly Bonds co-star. A great movie also.

You know, "Cassino Royale" may turn out to be the best Bond film ever, and Mr. Craig (though not my first choice for the role) the greatest Bond ever. Time will tell.

If I were to cast a blonde Bond, I would have gotten Connery -Jason Connery.

:D

I think this is the directionthe franchise MUST take. I mean a darker more character driven bond movie. YE! o and he looks EXCELLENT as bond. I found a picture of him in the role. I'll try and find it again.
Quentin I think was goin to but was let go because of the direction he wanted it to go in. But they kept some of his ideas and things like that I think. dont quote me on this!
