Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

PayPal always favours buyers also, in my experience.

Most of my eBay transactions end up direct through PayPal :wink1:

Definitely go through eBay. I have gotten screwed more frequently the last couple of years. They do side with buyers 99% of the time these days. Basically buyers don't have to give reasons anymore when it comes to returns because of the money back guarantee policy. I've had items where I've listed tons of pics, listed any flaws or issues and even had the listing as no returns allowed and have had buyers win cases. It's really screwy. But you do need to at least keep yourself as protected as you can in case of scams or deadbeats.

Yeah, don't think I would make special arrangements for someone I hadn't done transactions with before. They might be honest, but better safe than sorry.

I always chuckle when sellers state 'No Returns' or 'I'm not responsable for any damage during transit'.
You're basically wasting your breath.

TBH no returns shouldn't even be an option anymore for sellers. It completely contradicts their money back guarantee. It's a buyers world on eBay now. I've had an account for 17 years and you definitely have to brace yourself for every sale now. People have every right to use the return system but way more abuse it these days.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

An off-topic random eBay question, if selling something on eBay and an international buyer asks if they could do the transaction directly through Paypal to avoid import tax (and says seller would also avoid the eBay fees), is it safe to do so or is it better off to have eBay protection? I've heard eBay tends to favor buyers nowadays so that may not mean much, haha, would it be better off to do the transaction directly through Paypal or is that very risky as well? Thanks in advance!

You gonna be *****. Tell the international person to buzz off.....

eBay is a pain in the arse.

Arranging pickup is always the best option but I understand that is not always an option especially in the States.

Had some guy pick up six items yesterday, arranged through eBay :wink1:
No fees, he knew exactly what he was getting, I was happy and he was very happy :)

Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

getting this secret 10% off code seems impossible for me. I've been trying on the re-issue vader life size bust for weeks and i get nothing. i haven't used one before, I've cleared history etc....

can any of you guys get it to show with the vader?

I've started a new thing because of this exactly....

im a very trust worthy guy and ill work with people on issues so i know i can be trusted. so I've started doing the following...

ill list an item too high with best offer. after they send me an offer, if i find it ok, ill write to them saying i can only do that offer if we go privately and they send as gift. because of my perfect feedback score and selling since 2000, i get a 70% or so sale rate. this way, they can't use eBay to screw me. if there is a problem i work directly with them. I've never had a problem and I've done about 10-12 hot toys/sideshow sales this way.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

I'd never pay nor ask for payment via gift. Regardless of feedback score.

eBays 10% is a joke but the 4%odd PayPal costs is well worth it.

If someone asks me to ship internationally and declare a low value I won't do it unless they pay as a gift. If I can't insure the full value I'm not taking the risk.

What is this payment as a gift thing? My apologies, I'm not very familiar with selling or Paypal. Does that have added protection or something? Do you buy insurance as well, does that also have added protection?

Apparently it's not available in all countries but no there's no protection at all.

If you send payment as friends and family there are no fees whatsoever, but there is also less money back protection.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

Oh ok, gotcha, probably best to just avoid shipping internationally then? Doesn't seem like there's any risk-free transaction, haha

Used the June code on Stan Lee. Was on the fence about him but 180 ain't too bad for the old man!

it is a gamble and one i wouldn't take. but as the seller, i know I'm responsible, trustworthy and safe so i have no problems asking for it. if they don't like it, they are free to disagree and go elsewhere.

if I'm selling here i don't ask for anything other than cover the fees, if they choose gift thats fine with me, but i don't ask them to.

if I'm selling something cheap on eBay i don't mess with this route. its just for when my spidey senses get the yips.

if you're patient enough you'll find someone who is agreeable to this method.

you know what they say, if you want fair value for something, you can't be desperate. i put my line out and ill get a bite sooner than later and ill get no hassles either.

Re: Current discount codes at SSC: June code 16JUN316 for $20 off

Totally agree BLS. I think the same thing, I use my real name for my actual business which relies upon my reputation so I don't have a problem asking for it as a gift. I pack better than anyone, no offense, and will help out if an issues arises, one hasn't yet.

The buyer pays the fee at a lower rate, but this might be waived for different account types and/or amounts. My business account always pays a fee for any amount sent OUT via F&F.

Just build it into your price. You're likely to alienate a percentage of potential buyers by even talking about fees.
