That's like bragging you've never been inside a library. What you're effectively saying is, "Who cares about having access to humanity's cumulative knowledge, accessible within seconds wherever I go?" You should rethink that. Get a smart phone. Your life will be better. In fact, the greater your means, the more reason you have to get one. Dining is better, vacations are better... any kind of adventure you can imagine is enhanced by access to information. Also, it's the only way to get those Sideshow codes, unless you want to refresh your computer screen every 30 seconds, while sitting at home.

I disagree, but I'm not getting into this. Not everyone wants nor needs a smartphone. I know plenty of people who don't have one. Life isn't better with one, it's just different.

You don't need a smartphone to at least get text messages for alerts. Change your email address on the forum to the email address that works to send text messages to your phone as determined by your carrier. Then subscribe to the 'non-banter' thread on the forum with instant notification. Make sure to re-open the thread after every notification to reset it or you won't get future texts.
Non-banter thread?

A smartphone is a tool. It's no more inherently detrimental or positive to your lifestyle than a wrench. It's all a matter of how you choose to use it.

Personally, I would never volunteer to not have access to the totality of human knowledge in my pocket, but thats me.

You can become obsessed with anything. As someone clinically diagnosed with OCD I can tell you, overcoming obsession is a matter of discipline, not minimalism. I'm obviously aware that people don't just use it as a library. You can hook up with people, or watch ****! You can use social media to showcase your art, or communicate with people! You can use it as a personal trainer, a navigator... or you can waste your time watching cat videos on Youtube. It's a tool, and like most tools it's wasted on stupid people, or those who lack discipline.

But is it a tool that's necessary for the cost? I'm not arguing that people can do without a computer or the internet. But what is so important that it can't wait until you get home to look up like you used to? Before I had a smartphone, it was rare that I'd feel the need to call someone and have them look up something for me on the internet when I wasn't home.

I don't think that any specific person can become obsessed with anything. Some people are more susceptible to certain obsessions than other people.

Now I'm going to get back to reading about Mozart, Greco-Roman art history and the principles of thermodynamics on my smartphone.

Here you guys go.

You said you weren't getting into it... then you got into it. :lol That's cool. Like a said, smartphones are a tool. However, they're a tool that is applicable to nearly every facet of your life. If you care about learning anything about anything, improving in light of your own subjective desires, a smartphone can help you in light of whatever it is that you want. Like food? Smart phones help find better restaurants and meals. Travel? Bring your phone, and you'll have all the knowledge a local might have, about fun things to do. Even human interaction can be enhanced, in that you can look stuff up when you inevitably forget the name of a movie, actor, place or whatever that you're wanting to tell someone about. There's literally nothing that access to information can't improve, if you're even remotely ambitious.

In other words, if you care about life being better, smart phones are useful in whatever that would look like. If you're completely satisfied with the way your life is and want nothing new, ever, because you're impervious to boredom... You're lucky. I've never met anyone like that.

Didn't mean to offend my bad fella. Set up tapatalk with notifications on your flip or vcr and you'll be alerted for codes..happy for your success I guess?

Honestly can't see another way to grab these 2-5 minute codes without alerts

Sorry, I'm confused... Does this mean that the reason I haven't been getting tapatalk notifications on my sock is because I need to connect it to my vcr flip phone?

I agree with you regarding obsession. Not everyone is wired that way. As for the value of mobility, that's subjective. If you never leave the house, I guess there's no point in owning a smartphone... But it'll get you out of the house, which would be healthier. Sitting around is bad for you.

While it's unlikely that anyone would "read about Mozart, Greco-Roman art history and the principles of thermodynamics on (their) smartphone", I have my entire record collection on my phone that I can listen to in the car, I can bring my phone with me to a museum to learn about paintings I look at, and regarding thermodynamics.... I can look it up, when someone uses physics to dazzle me in a debate! (It's a branch of physics concerned with heat and temperature and their relation to energy and work.) Thanks, smartphone!

I have a computer for all of that. I have a phone, but it's mostly just for emergencies. I don't do Twitter or any of that. I have Facebook on my computer but it's for games. I can't use my phone at work, it's not allowed. At home I use my computer.

I grew up with out cellphones or computers, you probably had them most of your life. I don't get bored without mine. There's plenty in this world to do and see that you don't need a smartphone for.

As for codes, I have to rely on the computer for them. Like I said, no phones at work so I miss any that happen during and I certainly am not missing sleep for those middle of the night ones.

I did pretty good last year. Can't remember my total though. Spook is a different story. Not sure what they're doing this year. No "Spook" box or anything.

I got another $20 code with my HT Punisher that I won't use by the expiration (11/15). I want to make sure it gets used, so reply to this thread with an item that you plan on buying with it. First to post wins the code.

I'd take the code and preorder a Hot Toys Princess Leia from The Empire Strikes Back. Thank you very much!
