You can get notifications by changing how you watch the thread.

When you click watch in the top right corner you can select with or without emails.

I am watching that thread but I'm not getting email notifications. How do you change how to watch that thread I guess is where I am confused? What do I have to do in my user CP to get email notification alerts for that thread?

If you're watching it already, 'unwatch' it, then watch it again and select 'with emails'.

I find the notifications inconsistent. They either show up in my email very late or not at all, unfortunately.

Sometimes the problem is if there's a multiple posts after the initial one you act on. I think you have to visit the thread every time you receive an email, or at least after the last email. Otherwise the next (likely vital) post won't be emailed. Visiting the thread seems to set the system up again, or else it thinks you aren't bothered with it. lol
