Custom 13" Aqualad

Used Robin as a base, and an altered head provided by customer. Went with a 'sock' type boot similar to Aquaman -- figured full boots would be weird for an underwater character.

Dr. Fate's taking forever but should be done tomorrow. Had to enlarge the head twice.

Nice job on that Aqualad. Not a big fan of the DCDirect figures, but yours like nice. What other figures have you made?

Just looked at your flickr.com photos. They all look nice. How did you make the boots? Love that Hawkman. Aquaman and Hawkman have always been my favorite DC characters.

Hey thanks. Hawkman's one of my favourites too.

Aqualad's boots were handsewn out of spandex; drew an outline around his feet for the soles, then stitched to the side panels. You can turn Lex Luthor or Green Lantern's boots inside out to see the pattern.

For regular boots I try to re-use the plastic soles that come with the figures. I peel off the existing boots, then remount new ones onto the old soles.

I need to start making my own soles, though. I have a bunch of the Aquaman 13" to use as a base, but he didn't come with boots.
