It's not just the mouth, but the eyes. The head sculpt looks deformed. This and the Bucky Cap PF have disappointed me in the facial sculpts. I still need to get Sabes one of these days. Him and Gambit are truly awesome.

Yeah, one would say they were sculpted by the same hand.

On the other hand, I agree. Al least Sabretooth, and especially Gambit, turned out amazingly good.

I've been looking forward to this statue for quite awhile now (as have a lot of us), because Cyclops is my favorite X-man.
And now the exclusive fizzles. Concept was brilliant, Sideshow, but you failed on the execution of that visor-less head.

Thinking about just looking for the regular elsewhere in order to get it cheaper...

Would suck if they tweak the sculpt on the Ex., because of the NRD. If the Ex. head looked decent, I would probably go with the exclusive. But really, we have no way of knowing, so I'm not ordering that beast.

Of course, despite some having delusions to the contrary, Sideshow very rarely makes changes after these initial, official pics come out. So, I wouldn't expect much in that department anyway. Whether or not it looks better in person is something to be seen, but there is only so much lighting can do with a fugly sculpt like that, IMO.

Really though, the sculptor must have gotten his early '90s artist/creators confused, and based the head on Liefeld art instead of Lee art. Honest mistake, I'm sure. It has an uncanny resemblance to a Liefeld drawing:

I'm sure lots of Deadpool and Cable fans are flipping out at how "radical" this Ex. head looks. . .in between adjusting their "button fly" jeans and turning their baseball hat backwards.

The problem with the EX face is the mouth, nose and cheekbone placement. It does not look natural. They need to look at their recent releases (Wolverine PF reg head or Sabretooth PF EX reg head). Those have character and this one doesn't. I hope SSC resculpted Cyclops EX face.

All this talk about Ex head......you can't go wrong with a guy that ended up with Emma Frost.

The Reg head is the one that's going to be displayed regardless anyways so who cares. The Ex will probably hardly see the light of day.

I don't like him as much as Gambit tho', but I can't put my finger on why...

Paint doesn't look very good on the ex head either... which doesn't help its deformed appearance.

The rest looks awesome though... so not a biggie if you get a free head that looks bad

If I liked the sculpt of the ex as much as I do the reg, then I'd probably have the ex displayed most of the time. I really want to like it, but...

Amen, that's how I feel.

It looks to me that the big issue with the face is that the eyes are set in too far. Throwing off the look of the forehead, cheekbones and nose. That probably has to do with the light up feature and the fact that the eyes arent sculpted, but basically bulbs set in the face. Meaning they sculpted a hollow head and put the light up eyes behind it.

Almost certain that's what the issue is. That being said. I also have a feeling it won't look as bad in person. If the eyes are set in just a little too far, shadows from photography will amplify the issue.

Looks like a Tony Cipriano sculpt. He did do Bucky as well as Silver Surfer. It's the teeth that gives it away. He does an amazing job sculpting anatomy, however I don't prefer that way he sculpts human portraits.
