I used a silver chrome base which I layer thin washes of yellowish gold but accidentally went too far and it ended up more metallic orange. After correction the paint still holds some metallic characteristics. Here?s a shot that?s not under direct lighting.

I might take a look at the gold leaf if I want to make it more gold chrome like in this screenshot. Looks like they used 3 key light sources: very warm on the left and two spots from above making it appear much more shiny and metallic. I saved the link just in case. Thanks, Stryker!

Hey D.R.37,
Great work on the hand mods for Mando! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing how you did these mods and what hands were substituted and techniques used. I think I see the first mod (relaxed/Tusken fluent hands) uses the Boba 40th hands? These are subtle treatments to an already stellar figure, but I'm impressed how much of a difference this makes. Thank so much for sharing these.

Prime it with black, they use a light misting of chrome aluminum with light gold on top, or just use gold chrome. After weathering and finisher it'll achieve the look.

Thanks, Endo1.
I used hands from the ESB Deluxe Fett - essentially the same figure. Removed some material to fit the Mando armor plate. The Fett hands have similar details, not as defined as the Mando hands but still show up after a wash.

All looks great.

I also liked his original scraped together armor look. I am hoping they actually release the Swoopbike, too.

Thanks, Steven.

I thought about the gloss black base which is good for achieving the shiny chrome look but was going for a duller metal appearance.
Great customs. I?m really diggin that Tusken. Awesome work.

Thanks! The Tusken is a Sharad Hett concept I did.

And yeah that would work to give the shiny metal undertones. You can dull it up by painting on top of it and take off what you need. I did that to Ahsoka's shin armor.

Thanks so much for the details! :hi5:

This BEAST of a piece showed up...

It's an idealized sculpt and a most likely 1/7 scale but still the closest i'll ever get to a 1/6 version. Excellent choice of pose and the artist did an great job IMO. I'm not too fond of the few ultra-soft airbrush details, but they are easily overlooked with the rest of the paint apps and textures going on.

Unfortunately, I don't have a spot for this and a proper setup and lighting will need to be planned. I definitely did not want to miss out on this and pay aftermarket prices down the road like i have with a couple other pieces.

Now I need to get working on Malakili and Giran to go with.

...and one for fun :D

Fortunately, i was able to pick this up for just under $1000: RP's, a gift card from the wifers, and one of the promocodes.
It's insane that preowned Dewbacks on eBay have sold for more than this retails.

Congrats, it's an absolutely beautifully done statue. I agree with your comments as well. Probably about 1/7 scale and a bit idealized, in some ways probably both for the better and worse. They could and probably should have went a bit darker on the overall paint job but it is very nicely done nonetheless, especially for Sideshow's paintwork standards. I think the fiberglass construction with the nuts and bolts system turned out terrific.

It's definitely one of my favorite pieces in my collection now. So great pickup man, with only 600 made and sold out before going in stock the price in a couple years will be silly. A retail Rancor this size may never happen again.

That Rancor could've been cheaper. Or with better paint app.

I think the price is actually pretty reasonable for a statue this size and detail. It's made of fiberglass, is a Star Wars piece, and has an edition size of only 600 so all things considered I don't think it's any worse than a $300 Hot Toys figure :dunno

If you don't like the price of this now just wait a couple years...

Great addition Paul, looks awesome.

Super jealous, congrats!

Great addition!!!

Thanks guys. I?m very stoked to have been able to get this guy.

it would be great if it was cheaper but I honestly thought it would be much more upon release. The sculpt is done exceptionally well with lots of detail and the paint is great for a mass produced statue. The soft airbrush just needs a thin brushstroke to define those few crevasses. Seems like the factory decided to skip that last step. Will hold off with trying to do anything to him since he is boxed up again, but if it bugs me enough , down the road, I may make those subtle tweaks. The overall paint came out better than I thought when in hand. Yeah I know... all collectors say that :lol

I 100% agree, Turd, that this will massively jump in price in the next few years hence me ?needing? to get it sooner than later. I paid $625-$650 for my Dewback and that was a steal when others at the time we?re going for almost double that. As for the lighter tone, I like it. I always thought the Rancor was overly dark brown. I guess I?m not too picky on this not being screen accurate :dunno

Edit: Also I don’t understand how so many of the unboxing reviewers I saw could not tell its fiberglass, saying it’s PVC. The hairs/fibers are clearly visible when looking inside the back.
