LucasArts actually made some of the best games in history, just that none of them were Star Wars related.. The article doesn't really touch base on this but the true origin of the downfall actually started much earlier; when they announced they would stop making anything outside of the Star Wars IP. They essentially gave up on things they were considered the best at, for more of the same old mediocre Star Wars titles.
If Capcom represents the fighting game genre and Blizzard represents RTS, then LucasArts is the poster child for adventure games with many "best of genre" titles like Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion/DoTT, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Sam & Max, etc.. When you are 'the best at what you do', don't quit... that was the worst decision they ever made. Both Capcom and Blizzard realize this and have gone back to their roots in recent years, but LucasArts is no more..
Also I thought something really worth mentioning, a lesser known title made by LucasArts and published by Konami named 'Metal Warriors' for the SNES, specifically the multiplayer portion of that game is an incredible video game design. Titanfall is actually based on the same concept but it doesn't have as much gameplay diversity in the different mech suits like in Metal Warriors, that's a rare example where an old game is so advanced for its time that even modern games today can't really out do it.
