DC Direct 13" Flash

The DCD 13" Flash arrives in comic shops today! Anybody pick this up? Mine won't arrive until Monday or Tuesday from AlterEgo.

A little FYI: The DCD 13" Captain Marvel/Shazam has been moved up from 2/21/07 to 2/14/07! That's two 13" figures in two weeks!

Three weeks after that, Superman V2 arrives. Feast or famine with this line!

I just recently cancelled all my DC Direct 13" orders, we're remodelling our house and I needed to trim my expenses. I also plan on selling the figures I already have pretty soon. I've got all of 'em up to Flash, but my love for the line has taken a nose dive recently and I think I can find much better ways to spend my money.

If the 13" Flash is anything compared to the Superman Version 1, Lex Luthor, and Batman I am all for it. Granted I may have to pass. Just picked up a DiD WWII US soldier. Getting into that line. Plus with the Captain America Premium Format, GG Slave Leia, Shaun of the Dead bust, and my 13" Batman I have yet to pick up from my store, cash is really tight for collectibles at the moment. Gotta pay into other things like bills, food, and going out with the girlfriend. Gull darnit!

Yeah, TNI is my home base, but I frequent other forums as well. This is one of my favs though. Sadly, I've heard only one good thing about the new Flash. Nice boots. That's it. It seems that the color of his hands and head is different from the rest of the red on his body. DCD used a decal for his chest emblem. His head is too small. He has no neck. Ugh. This is my favorite line but Flash is starting to sound like a real turd.

I reserve final judgment till I get mine, but I'm not very hopeful at this point.

See, this is EXACTLY why I hate preordering items that are 50 US or more, because as nice as the prototype pictures look like, in a lot of cases (not all), the transistion from prototype to mass produced product sees a massive hit in terms of quality or lack there of. That is why I rather see the final product in hand before purchasing the item. But sadly, it doesn't work out that way a lot of the time. And in the case of a lot of SideShow's stuff like their exclusive lines you take your chances in hopes it doesn't sell out before the product even comes out. Then you're screwed paying those crazy inflated secondary market prices kicking yourself in the ass for not getting it at the original MRSP or discounted below MRSP price.

Collecting can be such a bugger sometimes.

Yes, I preordered him. I preorder all of my DC Direct 13" because there isn't a LCS around here. So far, I've enjoyed every one of the 13" figures they've released.....and I've bought them all.

Yeah, I picked mine up this afternoon. The neck is very short. I haven't taken it out of the box to figure out why yet. None of the other DCD 13" figure sculpts fit the neck post like this. And the gloves and cowl are very close to the same shade of red as the costume, just a different texture and not as shiny as the spandex. Doesn't look bad. The head sculpt is very nice and makes you think "Barry Allen" when you look at it. Overall not a bad figure but not as nice as Batman or Green Lantern IMO.
Looking forward to Captain Marvel in a couple of weeks. Looks to be a very nice release with the improved sculpt and color corrected yellow and gold trim.
And who's this "Shazam" guy? Wasn't he played in the movies by Shaq?

I think the neck and head size looks ok. The problem is the fabric of the suit is too tight and isn't form fitting on the neck. If you press on the fabric on the sides of the neck you can tell there is space between the fabric and neck. By adjusting the fabric, I got it looking better already. Otherwise, it does seem to throw the head and neck proportions off.

The color difference isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Added pics!

You now have pics! The last one with Batman for a comparison didn't turn out so well but the head sizes are the same for both of them.

I think the biggest issue is the way they did the neck on the back of the costume for Flash. As you can tell by the side picture I took, it looks huge because of the zipper which gives it an odd look along with the overly buff chest/body style.

I'm picking him up next week - I love this line - However due to the scaling issues, they get a long shelve all to themselves. I've got them all bar Two-Face - still on the fence with him. I recently put my Connor Macloud Trence Coat on Lex and it looks great.

Looks pretty good to me! I have to wait for Marc to send it, but I'm always looking forward to getting my big 13 inchers!

And the anticipation for this line is sure to skyrocket when/if the Bergholtzian heads start hitting!

You must order from AlterEgo as well! Yeah, I always look forward to the releases in this line. All the early reports of problems had me scared but after seeing pics, I'm ok with the Flash. Except that profile shot really makes his neck look bad!

One other area of concern, the wings on the head and boots ave VERY fragile.

One of the two figures I saw today had a broken head wing and I just broke one of mine off moving the head. Lucky, I was able to reattach it but it took two different glues to find on that would hold.

They really need to do something about the zippers. Besides the first Superman, who's really changing the clothes on these guys? Just sew them in to the suits!

I kind of like the zippers. It adds realism to the figures costumes. Granted the zippers aren't in scale with size of the figure or boot. Meh, what can you do?

Could be worse. We could be getting those big zippers like on the Medicom RAH Ghostrider. hehe

Edit: Okay just saw that Natrix added pictures. I now see that the big zipper problem is not on the back of the boots, but on the back of his outfit where his neck is. Yes, that is annoying and would look better sewn unto the suit as Dave had pointed out.

Well I received my Flash today and unfortunately, both of his head wings were broken off in the package. Grrrr....... DCD's piss-poor quality control strikes again.

Natrix, what type of glue did you use to fix his wings?
