Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I'm gonna have to dig up my collection. LOVE those comics but I don't recall what she looked like. Was it when she went to Alec Holland for help? That was a pretty intense look!
Yes, issue 16. She had two designs, one for the main story and the flower-ish one for the back up story.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I like the look of clay face a lot. I have always loved the DC Superheroes S3 Mattel version and this one looks a worthy successor. The height doesn't bother me to be honest, I think he scales fine to how i would imagine Clayface to be.

Ventriloquist looks like another solid addition to the line. one of my fave Batman villains that never got the DC Universe classics treatment so I am super excited to add him to the shelf.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Thanks for the links! Ugh, he's just way too short.

agree with you, but I'm more disappointed about the articulations... but it seems that around here no one care about pose figures xDDD with this range of motions I see no point in do a line of "posable" figures... do statues DCC! :D I repeat: is unacceptable that more the line go on and less articulations we have... they're removing articulations (less production costs) but the price of these things keep to growing... can please someone explain me how this can be a fair/good thing for a collector?

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Thanks for the video links, blebble. :) Clayface's normal head seems to look better in video and Scarface/Ventriliquist look really great!

I'm afraid Clayface has been pushed back to December 7th now.

And Koto ArtFX Batman says December 28th, but that's probably still not right since its an end-of-the-month date.

no problem, found it randomly :D I was searching for the deluxe batmobile review but when I saw Clayface in the thumbnail I was like.. "WTH?! really? o_O"
seems like anyone can have this figures early but us xD ahahaha

Thanks for the issue number. That might be an ambitious custom but it's definitely a cool alternate take on the character. I'll give it a try when I get the chance.

As for Clayface, the thing about animated characters in general is that they rarely stay 100% on-model, especially when hand drawn. While we might remember a character being HUGE, the intent might have been different. That's why DCC is sticking to the model sheets. (I'll have to try to track down a style guide with a height chart.)

Besides, as a character designed to morph in shape and size, I can cut this figure some slack. Though it doesn't "tower" over other figures it's certainly more massive. Whether it's full-price massive is up to the individual.

Looking forward to see your work!!

I wished DCC hadn´t based their figures strictly on the model sheets, they could have made some exceptions like making bigger foot and hands for some figures so we can make the most of the articulations.

I won't lie; I'm disappointed with the lack of knee articulation. A bigger figure definitely would have helped make poseable knees happen.

I think a lot of it with the animated style of these figures is also articulation impacring aesthetics.

If they say had a thigh cut like the current Masters of the Universe Classics then you'd lose the sleek line of their legs. Too many on the ankles and wrists you get areas prone to breakage - I am surprised they've managed (in most cases) to strike a good balance. I'd take "limited" articulation in favour of aesthetics any day. They're hardly "statues".

Saying that there are a few missteps. Why Demon doesn't have ankle rockers to allow him to stand like the turnaround is beyond me.

I get what you're saying about articulation vs. aesthetic and I appreciate the balance DCC has found for the most part, especially with this line. I'm not sure articulated knees would have destroyed the look of this figure any more than with Mattel's.

And I agree, those ankles rockers are missed.

THANK YOU!!

That's what I've always thought about articulation in action figures. Even with figures based on live-action characters.

First, I get that "action" figures mean they are and should be posable. But when it comes to figures with sculpted clothes, the points of articulations are visible (of course!) and, therefore, the aesthetics are forever gone, thanks to the "lines" etc.
That's not the case with Hot Toys, for example, since the POAs are hidden with fabric clothes.

I remember when I got my very first "super posable" figure: a 2002 Toy Biz Spiderman, from the movie (the one with the gargoyle). Althought awesome to pose, his aesthetics were completely destroyed.
One of the things about Spidey that I think is a trademark is how sleek and clean his body looks with the costume. And the several points of articulation ruined the look of the figure, IMO.
Thank God, Toy Biz made two other Spidey figs from the movie with less articulation, which preserved the aesthetics.

Regarding this line and animated figs, the situation is even more complicated, since cartoons tend to be very sleek and clean.
Especially with female characters.
Zatanna, for example. One of her trademarks is how long and gorgeous her legs are. And DCC NAILED them. Her ankles are so well sculpted.
If they had given her legs several POA, such iconic trademark would have been ruined, no doubt.

Regarding Clayface, the fact that his body is completely uneven, as oposed to the other characters, POA wouldn't have ruined his aesthetics. However, he's a heavy figure, especially on the upper body. So, I'd say DCC chose to not give his knee POAs in order to prevent them from getting loose with time.

I'd have to agree. While spinning meat is not good at all, if you want to collect statues, there's plenty out there. I really dislike action figures that only look good in museum poses.

Actually I think Clayface would have been a perfect figure to hide articulation, with his uneven look - bit of mud folding over a knee join for example. It is a rare chance for them to put the articulation in and not lose the figures aesthetics. Look at that great ab crunch on Man-Bat - was hidden beautifully by DCC.

With the knees and ankles - it is a 50/50 on which way to go. His weight might make him topple over on weaker joins (better design and production would solve that issue but they are no guarantee with DCC) where not having any also reduces the ability to balance the figure properly.

Yes, exactly!!
That's why I said that, since his body is all uneven, more POA wouldn't have ruined the aesthetics. It would've been fine.

But oh, well... still a great looking figure, IMO.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Yeah, maybe we should all just ask DC "pretty please" and they will ship them right to our door!
Yeah, I really don't understand why he got them early. He doesn't seem like a very professional reviewer that would've given a boost in advertising with a high quality review. He gave us more of his opinion of the show/character than he did the figure. Plus, one's crotch isn't exactly the best backdrop for a review. : /
They should've gone to Crawford or The Fwoosh for a nice, comprehensive review.

haha! That's OK!

I would say they pushed Clayface (a deluxe, more expensive fig) one more week so people can save money the week of November 30, which will see the release of two figs (Holiday Joker and TNBA Harley).
Also, that way, they'll have new releases in four consecutive weeks.

Don't know, just guessing...

I'd muted it before I even got halfway...

LOL totally agree xD I was about to write a comment on his videos... "dude, show the damn figures... -.- not your parts... -.-"

statues are so cool, I like them but I prefer the Japanese stuff (well, I collect only Megahouse One Piece P.O.P. actually, I'm not a huge collector :D), for the DC universe I prefer figures.. so many Kenner memories xDDD as I wroted some time ago I will simply stop to collect this line, just gonna grab some characters more and then bye bye xDDD was a very cool and nostalgic line, but at this point I see no effort in DCC and they totally don't worth the price anymore for me :)
