Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

I have been trying to follow some of the news about this, but most of the articles that I have seen are about possible reactions rather than facts. Has DC announced creative teams for books yet, and does anybody know a place to find some of that information? I have been following writers and artists from title to title for a while now, so this might be less upsetting for me, but some of my favorite continuity stuff sounds like it is going in the toilet. :thud:

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

Thanks Mike. I'll shift my preorders to some of the artists/writers I like, but this is still a weird idea. I'm going to miss some of the ways that the DCU has evolved. A big part of why I like comics as storytelling is the continuity and seeing how creative writers can work with years of baggage attached to a character.

I didn't think this would work for the ultimate line at Marvel, but I was pleasantly surprised wtih how Bendis has handled things. (Screw the Ultimatum stuff though....grrr.) I don't want to presume that I won't like this, but I will miss all of that history.

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

if dc want to relaunch younger versions why not copy the marvel ultimates idea?
i loved that, right up to the pooch screwer that was ultimatum
i stopped reading dc comics exactly because they kept screwing with the contunity - having followed batman since 1986
spiderman got ditched because of one more day - which was a terrible idea by the way

i now only read a few titiles - strangely inc gi joe- hey its a new continunity not a messed up old one
I just got fed up with old stories being contradicted or ignored for no real reason- u listening lucas film!!- that And the incessant need for a pointless summer crossover
Dcs first mistake was crisis and the idea of one universe -
After so long of having the multiverse

That and bringing back Jason todd.......

I tend to just dip batman now and then as I love the character and ive been enjoying both the movies and the animated movies

I never caught the original or the rebooted Vigilante. Apparently this new one will have Cassandra Cain, unsure if she was included in the last one.

If she's the main character. DC you are forgiven*even if this and Batgirl are the only titles I'll get*

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

It's not like they don't already copy each other anyway. I would've complemented them on the attempt. :wave

True, but then a deliberate copying of the Ultimate universe would be too blatant :lol Then again I hear Marvel is dropping hammers all over the MU the same way DC dropped multicolored rings not too long ago :lol

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

I'm expecting this thing to run for at most, two years before getting stamped with an "Elseworlds" label while DC returns to normal continuity. :lol

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

At least he took SWAMP THING back from the clutches of the odious Karen Berger.

Not sure this is a good thing, Vertigo under Karen Berger is the best run, best story telling part of DC/Warner.

Some of the best swamp thing stories were done under Berger's watch, not sure why Swamp Thing needs to be in the DC universe or Constatine for that matter.

I wish the regular editors of DC had half the management skills of Berger.

Showed this post to my local LCS owner, Chuck, all he had to do was laugh. He's been saying for years, its took him forever to find the 14 or so DC titles that actually sell, now they want to cancel them all and start with a brand new 52.

Now actually DC puts out about 50 or so titles a month, which includes Vertigo and thier young kids line, I wonder how that's going to effect the other two lines, it looks like they are actually upping monthly titles.

None of the comic shops here locally have any clue where they are going to actually display all 52 titles and thats not even taking into account of what to actually order. I mention all the new DC stuff and I get blank stares from most DC readers I know. I don't think this is going to go well :(

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

Off topic, I think it is interesting alot of people cite Ultimatum as being when the Ultimate Universe started sucking, but I felt like that aside from Spider-Man most of the lines were getting blah.

Back on topic, I can see how people would criticize DC for copying the Ultimate Universe, but it still seems like it would be a better idea than this. The biggest issue though is that resetting the timeline won't change the problems. It's like trying to cure an illness, by going back in time to before there were symptoms.

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

The Ultimates line was sucking long before Ultimatum. I would say that The Ultimates never regained glory after the first arc, USM became stale around Ultimate Carnage and X-Men was bad for a loooong time. Ultimate FF was bad after the first real arc and the rest were meh. Ultimatum was the attempt to bring everything back and it didn't work.

Re: DC Rebooting entire Universe in September?

I still enjoyed USM up until the end. Ultimates definitely sucked after the first story arc. I never really liked UXM, I just sorta read it since I read all the other titles. :lol I enjoyed about half of the UFF. I think its funny that instead of trying to fix their original Ultimate titles they just decided to add a dozen more. And the whole Ultimate Avengers thing confuses me so I pretty much dropped it all.

I just don't get why these comic companies don't sit back and say what do people like and give us that instead of all these events and major changes to get attention.

really enjoyed ultimates 1 and 2
never read spidey or ff except when they appeared in other titles
x men started well had the odd off issue and recovered well with cable etc until the whole banshee and ultimate origin miniseries
so really i guess i mis-spoke and it was this that heralded the downfall with ultimatum just delivering the killing blow
