this is an interesting topic. Joost is a great guy and always quick in communication.
He loves what he does, what you can see at the quality of his products. :clap

I own the large death star hallway and was stunned when i saw it for the first time. What i really like about is the versatility you are able to display your 1/6 figures. You can drop in all the good guys, bad guys, build up a scene about a jailbraik or one where 4 Stormtroopers escort han solo in carbonite. This was my main reason why i jumped on this train with one of joost last production batches.

This is also the main reason why i would not jump on every true scale diorama. A carbonite Chamber would look awesome, but it is what it is, a on scene diorama. Not so many options to display it different.
So if you go for an other true scale diorama, imho. should be this your main question: How many options does the customer have to display it?

The detolov size diorama looks great as well, but for me it does not fit the right dimension to display my figures probable.

Have you ever think about to make some nice looking accessory. Maybe barrels, cargo boxes, etc.. ? I guess their could be a demand of this as well?.

and like always, just my two cents.... :wave

Lots of great thoughts and ideas here. I would have to think about display options, but they are mostly going to be limited. In the carbon chamber, it's either the freezing scene or Luke facing vader. With the Tantive IV entry way, it's either the episode IV battle or Darth Vader entering it in Rogue one. (or come to think of it, the end of Revenge of the Sith). The emperor Throne room can only be used for the final scenes of ROTJ. So by that measure, only the Death Star is really that versatile. It is something to think about though. The TruScale DX series are always going to be more limited and I have to believe there are always at least a few dozen potential buyers out there in the world.

I also like you accessory ideas! I'm going to ponder options there

As others have pointed out, Joost - one of the biggest points is that you let people know what versions are likely from the outset.

Perhaps you could show the Detolf size version (the way you already do) and then gauge interest at that time for the "TruScale". Some people would at least want the Detolf, but Truscale if available. So, you'd only be potentially losing the "Truscale only" people if you couldn't get enough interest.

Me, personally, wants all your Detolf dioramas. I want all the upgrade kits if you do them too, like the service corridor extensions. I

would have to look at the Truscale versions on an individual basis to decide if I'd want them or not. But, whatever happens, I support you and the Detolf sized dioramas you make in the future.

Lots of great points here. With these specific scenes you are limited to certain character per diorama. Unfortunately i missed out on the big one jazz did. I would def be into some props for sure to add to an existing diorama or to make your own. Although there is not much complexity and machinery needed to make lets say an endor or tattoine diorama some thing like that would be incredible to me. Maybe the moisture farm with some small huts and or the farming equipment (not sure what they are called as well. This way you can do more with the diorama character wise instead of being limited. Also maybe outside the cantina, i guess I'm just thinking the more versatile the better.

I will love to see Besta dioramas. You got more space and more options.
I own 3 and 1 detolf a PO , is really good. But more space is always better.
And maybe it fits for some ¼.

2 more things to consider would be (1) changing materials. Metal is expensive. How about wood or plastic? (2) offering unpainted to cut costs.

We are looking into other materials. For instance, we need to use Forex for the tantive, because it's the only material that can be ordered in thick enough boards to cut the Tantive doorway. It's really about the right material for the job at the right price. Unpainted was something I offered on the initial very large death star and none of my clients except one went for that.

Going back to the main subject, the option of making dioramas of larger Dx tru scale is really a good idea in itself. The first three themes you suggest are still a better idea and especially for the throne room. The Besta seems particularly suited to this project as the freezing chamber. However as you point out the main obstacle is the manufacturing cost and the impact on the selling price. We all know that your passion knows no obstacles but our portfolio yes. The Detolf range is very exciting as it is affordable for many of us, thanks to your talent. The answer to your query will necessarily be in the number of interested collector, it is this number that will determine the possibility for you and your father the profitability of such a range. Do you already have an idea of the minimum number of buyers you need to make a Dx tru scale project viable? An idea of the average cost even though I suspect that the freezing room does not have the same cost as the throne room. I take this opportunity to tell you that I look forward to the progress of your work on the hallway of tantive 4 and the throne room ... version Detolf!

Thank you for your thoughts. Yes, I agree on all counts. I am going to try a price target around $500. The only thing I don't know is whether that will always be achievable. But from my previous experience, it is very important to have a maximum price point in mind when designing these things because it forces you to make decisions instead of my natural inclination to keep adding to things and making them better and better and more detailed, until they are priced out of anyone's range.

Your approach is the right one, and the success of the diorama Detolf proves it. 500 USD is a good starting point and will allow all of us to position ourselves to give you its opinion. Personally such a purchase would be a real financial effort that I will be ready to do for a diorama but necessarily to the detriment of the purchase of figurine or ... diorama Detolf!

Any versions of the Death Star/Star Destroyer interiors will always sell I believe. You can display any figures in them, rebel, Imperial or otherwise and they always look good. A suggestion I would have it to check out the maps that were created for the PS4 BattleFront game, there are so many great interior environments that are pure Star Warsy goodness. Imperial hangar bays, Tattooine docking bay, Endor bunker interiors, so much good stuff that would look amazing as inspiration for one of your displays.

I would love to own one of your dioramas Joost, I am just waiting on the right one to encapsulate ANH for me and which coincides with my having the funds. I don't like detolfs but I have two treasured display pieces that completely sum up ESB and ROTJ for me - a Sideshow Dagobah Hut with HT figures and a Jabba with ROTJ figures around it - and I want something similar for ANH based on the Death Star.

I've always wanted a kind of 1/6 scale version of the old Kenner Death Star Space Station play set which could be used as a bare bones display case for ANH characters - literally that play set in 1/6 but in metal with the correct colours and the more toyish parts redesigned to look more like the film. No gun on top of anything but floors, walls, supports, easy to assemble timewise and more interesting visually than a detolf.

^^ Yes please, I love this idea. Death Star-tolf

Seems to me if you buy the various pieces and stack them in detolfs you will get a Death Star effect. A 3 or 4 layer diorama would be pretty much the same price as buying 3 or 4 individual pieces.
It would be cool if Joost offered the various pieces to emulate the Kenner one but I'm already thrilled with what he has in store.
