Is this head getting tweaked? Perhaps a version 2? It just doesn't look realistic enough for me. No offense to the sculptor or anything.

... and none taken!

I'm not a professional sculptor and don't claim to be one! Actually, I'm a seamster first and foremost! I sculpted this head when because I was disappointed with Ada's version and when it became obvious C. Howes would never deliver one...

So it's imperfect and there won't be a second version for at least two reasons! First, I hate doing the same thing again and again. Two, if I had the talent to do it perfectly, I would have done it the first time. You have to know your own limits and mine are there, unfortunately... :(

Do you own one?

I do.

and let me tell you 16k did a great job with it. He captured alot of the details that Ada missed on her sculpt and it's a much better likeness than Ada's Dexter sculpt. I'll post pics of mine once I paint it, I think it's a great piece of art!

Thank you my friend,

I really appreciate your support though I'm afraid Clock Work has a point! I know my hs has failures! I can see them myself (nose slightly too long, face a little thin...), but I've found out the hard way that knowing what's wrong and making it right are two different things! I envy those who can produce a spot on sculpt each time they do one! For my part, I just can't as after some time spent on a sculpt, I'm unable to make out what's wrong from what's right. I usualy find it out much later and I've also found out that sometimes, when you modify it, you make it worse!

A sculpt is really a delicate balance of elements and it takes a Z or a Serang to strike gold everytime...

I totally agree with what you're saying. I feel like there's always room for improvement on every sculpt out there, not to mention the fact that not everybody views a face the same way. The thing I like about your Dexter sculpt is that you're a fan and it shows in your sculpt. It has that level of love & attention that Ada's does not have. Ada is a great artist and I'm not trying to discredit her but it's definitely all about the money for her. Her Dexter sculpt was based off of one single pic from a frontal view. She left out alot of details including moles, the profile view is off and there are areas where you can tell it was rushed and unfinished (parts not rounded off, looks like they were just cut with a modeling knife).

Keep sculpting only the stuff that you like and you'll always produce great stuff.

Thanks guys! :D

support much appreciated! :D

I think Ada is much better than people give her credit for. As you said, her biggest problems are that she's dependant on the pictures people give her to do the sculpt. When she has a lot of them, they look okay and she misses the point on the other occasions, but still, I like a lot of what she does!

I have just finished a pattern for Dexter's Donut box. I had to make some screen captures to isolate the logo and I reworked it through different software, from paint to photoshop to word. The result is almost accurate (except for a color pattern I was unable to reproduce on the box but that I'll do with... crayons). Anyway, the result is a word document. I want to make it available to you but have no idea how to upload a word doc on the site, so if you want one, please shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll send it to you as an attached document!
