That's pretty cool. It's always great to see them in person.

I'm lucky to have lived near Chicago all my life, so I've been able to see some great dinosaur specimens at the Field Museum. The largest, most extensive, and best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton is housed there.

do you guys know if the t rex skeleton in the nyc natural history museum has any real parts? or is it completely fake. It doesnt seem very real to me...

Well dinosaur skeleton fossils are actually stone that replaces the bone during the fossilization process.

A lot of museums also make plaster molds of the fossils to display as it's more durable and lightweight and it lessens the risk of the actual fossils getting damaged. They can also add in missing pieces to make the display look more complete as most dinosaur fossils that are found aren't complete. This also lets them preserve the actual fossils for scientific study. I'm not sure if the specific specimen you're speaking of is like this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

yeah exactly, that's why i wanted to know if the one on display has any real parts. I am pretty sure it's fake, the way they display them without any protection.

Hello dear friends! I managed this weekend to reach one of the most impressive history museums in Europe(Wien). Where I first saw live an Allosaurus skeleton and a skeleton of Apatosaurus!:panic: Feeling was that I go back to Jurassic period:lol. I suspect that in the U.S. these skeletons are common for you!:wink1:
PS: Allosaurus had some deadly claws:horror. I'll put some pictures when I download from the camera:hi5::yess:

Allosaurus certainly has deadly claws..back up by deadly jaws running quick on deadly paws.. ;D

Almost every museum that displays a full skeleton is using a replica. The real fossils are VERY fragile and not usually displayed.

Some pictures of the museum in Vienna!

Hello all, Great to see all these dino lovers in one place. Does anyone here want to sell either a Trex Diorama or Trex and Tri Diorama? Got to the sideshow party late. Just got my Apato maquette and loving it. Amazing quality. Would really like to get my hands on either of those. Just pre-ordered the stego as well.
