Ikea's new catalog has new Billy doors that seem to allow more visibility, but they are edged in aluminum: morebo door for Billy. I haven't seen them in person yet.

erm... i do believe these doors are not clear glass. which means you can't see what you place behind the doors at all.

galactiboy, it costs $250 to ship a detolf? that's unreal!

probably not too much, as it is not that deep. but it is very nice and elegant looking. i too saw it at the local mall and was impressed, especially with the price.

Yeah it is not that deep a little wider then the detolf though. When I touched the shelves they felt a lot sturdier. I think one of the problems with the detolf is that week welds on the steel shelf support. I am going to bombay today and I am going to ask how much they can hold.

Speaking of detlofs, if anyone in the hampton roads area needs any I'm heading up to Manassas to get a few in the next couple of weeks. I'll gladly pick some up for you. I believe I can fit four in my car.

Darth Saffron's pictures show what I was going to post: Ikea has brought back a dark Detolf. When I posted pictures of my older black one, I got a lot of questions about where to find one. The new one is pictured in their new 2008 catalog. It's not black but black-brown, and they are also introducing a white model.

For those here in earthquake country, they're also adding some clear plastic doors to the line of glass doors for Billy cabinets.

nice. i remember the black detolfs.. glad their bringing them back into production. does anyone remember the Nartorp?? i liked those a lot and since they stop carrying them i never see anyone with them anymore.

my first Detolf was a black one; I bought it years ago. When I added 2 more about 2 years back, I had to spray paint them black to match my first. The three we bought last week were the "black-brown" which look black.

I just got a black-brown one while in Houston last week. Hmm, didn't know that they were not manufactured. That explains all the pics of the light brown ones.

I'm just sad the Skogen's have been discontinued. They were PERFECT for all of Sideshow's PF's.

To add, their glass shelves were adjustable, unlike the Detolf's.
