I finally have enough cash to purchase a new television and was just wanting to hear your opinions on which is best. I have a 47 inch LCD which I think has a beautiful picture but have been browsing my other two options. I like DLP because of the size but am unsure if that takes away from the quality of the picture. Any advice would be great. :duff

A top of the line plasma beats a top of the line LCD or DLP for picture quality. Your budget is the big question. There is not an LCD or DLP on the market that is anywhere in the ballpark of the Pioneer Kuro plasmas.

im also a plasma believer. but any top of the line set out of those 3 is still amazing.

yeah but plasma gets hot enough to heat the entire house. i currently have a DLP and its been great so far, but recently i've been leaning towards LCD being the best you can get. especially the new Vizio 55" for $1700??? hellz yeah.

FALSE. My plasma gets warm but no more than any electronic of that size would. If you put your hand next to the back, it's warm, but other than that you wouldnt even know.

Yep cant beat Pioneers Kuro  but unfortunately though for us they have just pulled out of the aussie market.

I'm currently waiting on a Panasonic Viera which i think are outstanding especially for the price difference to a Kuro over here.

Whilst LCD's have made huge inroads i still think Plasma have the edge in terms of pure picture quality.

Good luck with it all Ringer.:D

Plasma for me. I have yet to see and DLP/LCD screen to top a palsma.

Although if money is an issue you cant really go wrong with a LCD or DLP.

You can a HUGE DLP for a fraction of the cost of a plasma too. When I got my 52" plasma there was a 65' DLP that looked great for about $800 less.

Now the difference is getting so minor between the 3 no matter what you go with you should be satisfied.

I went with a 52" LCD. I'm a gamer, and plasma screens have a tendency towards screen burn, which isn't an issue with LCD. Also, isn't the life expectancy of a plasma screen only about 10 years? LCDs last considerably longer.

I'd avoid DLP entirely. There are just too many things that can go wrong with a system that uses thousands of tiny mirrors to generate an image.

That being said, isn't there a new technology coming out that blows all of those away? I'm thinking LCOS, but I could be wrong about the name.

LCOS is known as HDILA. It has been out for several years. I recently updated from an HDILA to a new Samsung 52 LCD. It has a fantastic picture. Everyone that has seen it thinks it's a Plasma. Honestly the picture is that good. No ghosting images, blacks are nice and inky, and the colors pop! Can't go wrong with Samsung. It is my first and won't be the last.

That's exactly what I bought, the Samsung. CNET rated it the best of all the large-size LCDs, so it was worth paying a little extra for quality.

Like I said above, the difference in picture quality is fastly becoming a non issue, especially between plasma and LCD.

I have seen a few LCDs you would think were plasmas with really deep blacks.

Give LCD another year or so and they will equal plasmas in quality.

I have a 50" Panasonic plasma and wouldn't swap it for anything else, I used to own an LCD display and it paled in comparrison to the plasma in every way. Most AV Forums lean toward Plasma. Have a look at AVS Forums or AVForums, You will get all of your answers there.

Are those forums filled with douchey self proclaimed experts on everything?

If so, I prefer to just hang out here. At least here I know the douchey self proclaimed experts on everything and can avoid their posts.

Funny story about my new TV. My moms boyfriend wanted a new TV and I recommended the one I bought. So he bought it without even seeing it. Thats just how he is. Anyways I took a pic on my cell phone of the Flyers game in HD. I got real close to the set and sent it to his cell. I got a call from my mom asking why if I had no money am I spending cash on front row tickets to the game. LOL! I saved the pic as the background to my phone and have shown it to people throughout my office. They all said damn those look like great seats. :lol
