I was inspired by a post I saw a few days ago (can't remember which thread or person sorry :slap ) about limiting buys by choosing a tight overall theme for your collection and sticking with it.

Otherwise you can eventually be sucked in to buying everything, especially being a member here :panic:

So I cancelled my 1/6 DX Sparrow and Superman. No more 1/6 for me.

I've decided on Sideshow Premium Format statues - and limiting them to iconic heroes from childhood movies.

I already have Indy and Bruce Lee (not technically PF brand but they are 1/4 statues with real clothes so I count them as the same family) so I'm already a fair way along.

Still want Conan and something to represent Star Wars....maybe Jedi Luke...or wait for Darth Vader 2.
And I will buy an Enterbay HD Game of Death statue when they make it.
Enough about me though...

What does everyone think?
Does anyone here stick to a certain theme ...or wish they could? :)

Me & LeJuan were talking about this in a Bruce Lee thread :D

I've been forced to take a hard look at my collection and make a decision to whether I wanted to have a theme or just go bonkers and buy everything I liked. I decided that I like way too much and that's dangerous for me financially, so I'm sticking with a dual theme and trying to stay in those parameters.

Basically I'll collect martial arts related 1/6's or 1/4's, and Iron Man 1/6's and 1/4's. :rock

I'm selling all my old Transformers and vintage toys, and canceled anything Tron, Thor, Indy, Superman, Resident Evil related that I had on PO :(

I collect any figure that has a special resonance with me, be it from childhood movies, contemporary movies, or historical figures (including military). It sounds like a broad brush, but it actually makes my buying habits easier because I am free of feeling obligated into buying a so-called 'minor' piece just to complement another 'stronger' piece (ie didn't feel the need to buy T-1000 just because I had T2 T-800. T2 is enough for me to represent this movie).

But as far as figures go, it has to be 1/6.

I collect figures of things which I REALLY like irrespective of scale. Video Game figures, figurs based on comic art. I prefer to keep my collection in the 7inch scale as i dont have that kinda space and I dont want my room to look like a museum after some time. However when theres something really special and I cant pass up I get it. That would mean my 1:6th Bruce Lee figures and the TDK character figures. I dont think I want any more 1:6ths of any character other than Bruce Lee...

I try to avoid because if I get one of a series my OCD kicks in and I want them all...

I've been selling everything for 1/6 HT.

They (1/6 HT) also seem to impress people the most... and I have to admit I do like when people browse my stuff in genuine interest. Plus, it somehow seems less nerdy than having a bunch of cheaper figures all boxed up being "displayed."

My collection is based on properties I'm passionate about. Not just "like", but love - which for me, honestly eliminates most issues with overspending.

I haven't limited myself to 1/6 even though it's my favorite because HT/SSC doesn't really have all that many licenses I'm passionate enough about.

First love is always 1/6th, but whatever tickles my fancy is all good to me.

1/6 and Batman

So far my collection is exclusively Nolan Batman inspired, because those movies just speak to me in a way nothing has before.

But I can see myself expanding into 89 Batman and Comicbook Batman too

I also plan just a shelf of JLA characters and for that I will use Chris Reeves Superman and Reynolds GL along with 89 Batman probably.

1/6th comic book film characters first then iconic movie characters second. I typically avoid owning more than 1 representation of any character the exception at this point is IM. I own Mark I and Mark VI.

I have a Star Wars Original Trilogy Imperials focus (especially Stormtroopers), Terminator 1 & 2 Endos and Predator 1 & 2

Primarily 1:4 scale statues of iconic movie characters (i.e. Indiana Jones, LOTR, Terminator) and historical figures (i.e. Blackbeard, Wyatt Earp, Vlad the Impaler).

I try to avoid 1:6 these days, unless it's a single character from a property I like, like Hot Toys Assassin's Creed Ezio figure or anything from Sideshow's Dead line.

Also, anything Tron, Highlander or Red Dwarf-related.

If I had, i wouldn't be in such deep shiyet. :lol

I tend to only buy stuff that really speaks to me as a collectible. So while some figures look awesome (like Predators, etc) if I don't have an emotional connection its a pass.

Having said that I tend to stay away from alter ego (guy in regular clothing) figures and historical items. Not saying my collection is devoid of these, but the vast majority are from TV, film or comic properties. And I'm now almost exclusively 1/6 or vintage.
