Should HT take over if they could?

I want a REBOOT by Hot Toys

What difference would it make really? Seems like this license is cursed. :rotfl Nobody wants to finish the fellowship and despite everyone's praise here, I really doubt they'd spring for them, especially with the HT price tag so it would end up much the same as the DiD, TB and SS lines. :(

No, they are already too expensive! Unless Sideshow lets Hot Toys work on figures like Orcs or Ringwraiths, then we should just stick to Sideshow.

:mwaha Case in point! But I gotta agree. Sideshow's are priced right. If these guys were selling at $170+, I'd bail on the line too.

Id buy HT, but I think I would be more selective, as the price would be higher. But if HT did them, maybe it would allow for a large selection of characters to be made, ala Chewie, grievous and different aliens.

Interesting, I don't seem to have that version of LOTR...:lol

I voted for a reboot. I'd definitely be down for a bunch of the characters if Hot Toys made them. Imagine if Hot Toys made these:

Man, I need to pay more attention and remember what thread Im in:banghead

No worries. Seems like every HotToys fanboy has started a "Do you wish HotToys would take over the _________ 12" line from _________?" in just about every 1:6 non-HT thread here.

EDIT: I also just want to point out how full of crap some people are. As requested, pleaded and begged, HotToys did take the Hell Boy line and produced some really fantastic figures which went up for preorder on Wednesday night coinciding with the newsletter. Coincidentally, they're both still available and not even a "low quantity" alert either, rounding the end of a 4-day weekend. Yeah, Mr. "I'd buy them in a heartbeat!" I'm talkin' to you! :p Won't matter what line they take over, beit Hell Boy, LOTR or Star Wars, hella people would post, "I'd buy!" and then most would simply flake due to pricing.

LOL...you are probably right about that last part. That's probably why SSC has released for LOTR an average of 1 figure per year since the first movie was released. They don't want to raise their prices to the point that folks start flaking out, as you put it.
But HB may not be a good line to compare as its fan base is already kinda small compared to the likes of Star Wars and LOTR...or even Aliens. They seem to never have a problem selling the preds either.

What's ironic is that most of the HT stuff ends up selling for much more than the original price.

Makes you wonder.

To stay on target, I voted yes. I'd like to see them take the line or at least share the license like Medi and SSC on Star Wars and have them make the figs that SSC can't make happen due to cost. I think its obvious that SSCs developement cost are higher than HTs that's why they said if they developed the tumbler it would retail for twice as much. So it only makes sense that HTs should take it over and at least make the stuff that ssc can't. I think about their push on the iron man and batman wave. They've announce all three iron man armor variations in less than a year since the movie was released and one huge iron monger yet to be announced but already confirmed according to some online retailers. They have announced 5 figures and two vehicles for DK and the movie is yet to even have the dvd released yet. SSC managed to release seven LOTR figures in seven years...thats a shame to say the least.

They've lost the fire now...hopefully they can regain it when the Hobbits movie is released. Unfortunately SSC never released any surprise figs except maybe the Faramir...which was more of a wtf surprise :horror than a happy one.

I think Sideshow took into account the popularity of the license with the number they imported so I don't think that's an issue. I don't think they'd import 5,000pcs. I'd actually be surprised if it was more than 500.

But with great figs like Gandolf (despite the buck) and the HotToys assisted Hobbits, people still aren't buying these highly detailed and accessorized figures at $80-$90. I really doubt they'd bite at $150-$170+ despite most of the "If HotToys made it, I'd buy it!" fanboy claims filling these threads.

I think SSC has missed the boat...and a higher price point with a new company won't change that either. There would be sales no doubt but as you mentioned there are already 3 great figs out there that no one seems to care about. I just think if anyone could make whats left of the line (and I'm not talking fellowship, I'm talking Uruk Kai, orcs and the like) it is Hot Toys. Whether or not they would sell is a whole nother discussion.

Im starting to wonder if teh whole collectible market is starting to head south. I mean you can only collect for so long and lets face it, LOTR or SW isnt bringing in new blood.
Once you give people a reason to leave sometimes they dont come back.

Or sometimes they take matters into their own hands. Been by the Gimli customs thread? Fellow freaks are making a Gimli to rival anything Sideshow could produce with a simple body mod and an all to easy kitbash! :D
