Just saw this and liked it a lot. The performances are strong (yes, even Katie) and it's got a great creepy vibe.

One "flaw" though - they show the creatures too much.

I was discussing with someone after the film - back in the day before CGI they didn't show creatures because they'd be laughable, as they were in the original TV movie this film is based on.

Now that we can put on screen pretty much anything that anyone can imagine filmmakers feel like they should show their great creature designs. But as Stephen King always said - it's what you don't see that's far scarier than what you do see.

Totally agree, Dave. And agree with Stephen King too, of course!

Sara and I saw it last night and thought the same thing. So wish we didn't see the creatures so often and getting very tired of everything being CGI. But it was entertaining and effective at times- we actually squirmed some! Liked its atmosphere too. :rock

BTW- it opened up here last night, in Los Angeles...

This pretty much sums up how I felt about the experience. I'm glad I was able to see it as I'll be way busier very soon. But about halfway through I had this feeling like GDT and the gang were going to pull it off and not show "too much." Then it started happening a bit more and a bit more until they were in full reveal mode.

Still, I would call this one sufficiently creepy. Loved the little girl too! :D

I seen the previews and it looks decent so I'll check it out tomorrow. I'm in Venice Beach, CA visiting so I just need to find a nice clean theater around here that's playing it.

I love del toro movies but this one left me scratching my head "what's up with the ending?" I enjoyed fright night more :dunno

that sucks that they showed the creatures too much, but it sounds like it's still a likeable film cause I really liked the trailer a lot

What do you mean? I didn't see that ending coming, yet made sense for the characters. If you mean - why did the creature have Katie's voice? That's why they must take a human every time they come up - they don't eat them, they change into a creature. That's how they reproduce.

Finally saw this movie!!
I loved it!! There were some loop-holes here and there, but overall I thought it was a very clever story and loved the ending!!
I agree with Dave, it was pretty clear IMO...
The house was a character in itself! The cinematography was beautiful, and I thought the overall acting was great, including the girl, she did an awesome job!

Thought the movie was alright. Gave it a 6/10.

It did have great atmosphere. But I thought it was too long.

I agree with Dave's spoiler, that is how they replace their numbers.
