Runaways? Who the heck are they?

Here's some info, I'm not sure if they're worth starting a new thread on, so I'll just paste this here:

Could 'Runaways' Movie Be The New 'Goonies'? Marvel President Hopes So'I think all kids secretly wonder at one time or another whether their parents are good or evil,' Kevin Feige says of comic's setup.

They are the masterminds who brought you "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." They are working on films for characters like Thor, Captain America and Dr. Strange, not to mention their tag team "The Avengers."

But ask Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige what film he's most excited about, and the answer isn't a single adult superhero — it's a teen one. More accurately, a group of teen heroes. "Runaways" — which is currently being scripted by comic writer Brian K. Vaughan — is tentatively scheduled to be among the studio's many post-"Avengers" projects.

"I love the idea. Brian brought to Marvel one of the best new concepts that we've had in quite some time," Feige said of the film, for which he expects a finished script in early 2009. "It's very different than anything we've done before."

"Runaways" follows a group of kids who come to discover that their parents are up to no good — as in, a take-over-the-world kind of "no good."

OK, sure, not everybody's parents are supervillains, Feige laughed, but didn't everybody at some point think their parents were?

"I love the idea of kids banding together, discovering this thing, which I think all kids secretly wonder at one time or another whether their parents are good or evil. Well, these guys find out, unfortunately, that their parents happen to be supervillains," Feige said of the flick's setup. "I loved, when I was a kid, movies like 'Goonies' and 'Explorers' — and a non-genre example of that is 'Stand by Me' — the idea that when I came home from school, I could go on an adventure anywhere."

With the comic now in its fifth year and on its third major writer (including Vaughan, "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon and current writer Terry Moore), "Runaways," the film, will more or less follow Vaughan's creation arc, Feige said.

"In our discussions with Brian, we wanted him to be the person to bring it to life. I think it won't be a precise story line of any [of his comics], but certainly it will be most similar to the tone or origins of his structure in its initial run," Feige explained.

What it may or may not follow is the recent Marvel convention of cross-pollination, which is the buzzword of the summer thanks to cameos like Nick Fury's in "Iron Man" and Tony Stark's in "The Incredible Hulk." In the "Runaways" comic, several prominent heroes make brief appearances, but Feige thinks it's unlikely for the film version.

"If it fits a dramatic moment that we want to get across in the film, we would be able to do that — but I wouldn't want to rely on having Iron Man come in and wave every five minutes so we can put that in the commercial and sell more," Feige said. "I really want to build movies to stand on their own, and there's no reason that 'Runaways' — with the right script and the right cast — couldn't fit that on its own."

Since Marvel Studios say they want to do at least 2 films per year starting in 2010, and based on what we know so far, it would be a safe assumtion that the 2012-13 line up will be (in no particular order):

Antman
Hulk 2
Dr. Strange
Iron Man 3

Excellent line up. Wouldn't that be Iron Man 2? Wasp will probably in Antman movie.

We'll get Iron Man 2 and Thor in 2010, Captain America and Avengers in 2011. then I'm thinking those four, perhaps.

In addition to that, Sony planning Spidey 4 and 5 and a Venom spinoff, Fox doing the X-men origins movies, Young X-men(or whatever they're calling it now) and talk of a Dardevil reboot, we could be seeing at least three Marvel films per year for quite some time. :banana

Runaways was/is one of the best written Marvel book out there. I'd very much suggest picking up the trades.

Dr. Strange is my favorite Marvel character, so I'd love to see a movie done well about him. And following the Avengers model, they can do a Valkyrie, Nighthawk and Son of Satan movie and then - Defenders!

"Strange" News - Batman Doing Marvel Movie?
By the crimson bands of crapola! A story in the New Zealand Times has Batman actor Christian Bale practically signed to play Master of the Mystic Arts, Doctor Strange.
Seeing as how you can't get any further away from Hollywood than New Zealand, AND the fact that dark lord Sauron lives there, the likelihood that this story is actually true is suspect. But again, they are a day ahead of us, so this could be quite the scoop!

Here's what they're reporting...

Christian Bale's Strange Role

Christian Bale is set to play another superhero.

The actor - who has played Batman in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - is said to be the number one choice to play Dr. Strange in movie studio Marvel's latest comic book adaptation.

A source said: "Christian is hot property right now, courtesy of Batman. Doctor Strange is a very different kind of hero to Batman and it's felt Christian is the sort of actor who can make the part work on screen.

"It is understood a deal could be struck in the coming weeks."

The Welsh-born star "tops the list" of movie bosses to portray Dr. Strange, a former surgeon who becomes a powerful sorcerer after a car accident leaves him unable to perform operations.

Bale also plays hero John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation and has signed on for two more sequels in the science-fiction franchise.

He has also expressed an interest in reprising his role as Batman if a third film is confirmed.

Nope, just another rumor. Feige has had that in 3 years there's a possibility that Strange MIGHT be on the schedule. That's a long ways away from announcing casting. Bale wouldn't sign on without a script at the very least.

However I like that idea.

Perhaps lending credit to the film's rumored subplot of Dr. Strange beating the crap out of his Mom.....
