Batman Michael Keaton EX 1:4 PF 737/1250 - Sideshow
I have been waiting for this for a long time! I did get the Hot Toys as default but I'm a statue guy at heart and 89 is one of my favorite movies so when Sideshow finally announced this PF I was pumped.
This statue overall is very nice; the base is awesome but it's a shame that the very cool bats are in the back of the statue where you will essentially never see them, the cape is extremely well made (very good attachment method), the sculpt of the suit and cowl is great as well particularly the Nike shoes!.
There is however one thing that just bothers me and it's the face, I can't quite place it but it looks a bit weird especially after the amazing Hot Toys face sculpts... or maybe it's just the tilt? Other little incidentals are that (as I suspect is widespread) my grappling hook tip broke and considering I could hear parts dangling in the box before I opened it I'm not surprised, the left foot is just a smidgen off of the step.
It's also trick to show the amazing cape and still enjoy the actual sculpt beneath it but that's just the nature of the 89 beast.
All in all I'm very happy with it. It's not exactly perfect but it's pretty close and now I can finally have a proper 89 statue so....Stop the press!
Dat cod piece!!
And then I finally changed the exposure setting on my camera
Very nice piece all told. The base is similar to the Joker and Harley base but wider, the lions make me think of 'When In Rome' so I like that. The costume is very well made and well fitted and whip is super long! Kinda tricky to display nicely; I didn't spend to much time on mine but I liked the idea of her getting entangled in it and looking at it like "what the hell!?" (her vision is nicely directed toward her left elbow for that). The cat and bag are cool too, nothing extraordinary but serviceable.
The faces are a tale of two crooked little towns. The unmasked one as you can see (and seems to be widespread) is a googly mess on par with the infamous Rogue honestly, it's just that bad. The googles down one however looks really nice and it was always how I was planning to display mine so I don't really mind.
All in all it's another nice addition to the Bat-family.
DOOM ~Knee Deep in the Head~ Exclusive 29/350 - Gaming Heads
Latest arrival straight from 1993 shareware land!
I was curious about how this one would turn out and it is pretty awesome if I do say so! The scene depicting the famous cover is very well rendered, all the demons look great and the bullet effects are very nicely made as well. The base is pretty massive! The statue itself isn't huge (around 1:6) or high but to accommodate all those demons and lava is takes a fair amount of real estate.
The light-up feature is very nicely done (though it take 6 AAs!) and the lava light fluctuates nicely.
If you're a fan of 90s PC gaming it's frankly a must have!
Finally opened it after coming back from vacation and it came perfect, no complaints. I kind of wish the cape were sculpted. However I'm simply not in love with it for some reason. Can't explain it, I think I'm just not interested anymore, looking to unload a bunch and focus my collection.
Sorry for the downer but really the statue itself it really good so don't hesitate!
Now you will know the fury of the Queen of Blades!
Kerrigan ~Queen of Blades~ 1:5 Statue 698/2250 - Sideshow Collectibles
She's finally arrived! That took a while but it was worth the wait. Now even though I'm a huge Blizzard fanboy I still haven't played StarCraft because RTS is not really my genre of predilection, but the video games family of Sideshow statues is so small that really I rarely pass one up and I know I'm probably down for any Blizzard statue they release (except Deathwing because.... room).
In any case the statue is really cool, lots of details and lovely texture. I thought it was going to be very fragile but it's actually pretty clever; part of her hair tendrils have a lot of movement and so do her 'wings' to a lesser extent. And let me tell you that a good thing because the tip of the wings attach to the base via a peg and I had to stretch both to an almost uncomfortable level to make them fit. I was a bit stressed while testing the give but it does work.
Lovely statue to finish up 2015, any fan of StarCraft most likely had it on the way, video game fans should be a no brainer and even fans of dat booty ladies should take a second look.
Got the last one in the series (assuming the the JSC line is over) and she's one sexy kitten. It's a fairly simple statue but very nicely executed, my only issue is that the cat's ear broke so I need to see if SSC can send me a replacement since I feel the cat is a must for displaying the piece. I do really like the different texture for leather/vinyl. The one thing though Is that it's the smallest of the collection, having a crouched character already diminishes the statue int he same way it did for Mary Jane but the MJ base was quite a bit higher and the result is that it kind of feels like it's not in the same line as Gwen and Spidey because they tower over Black Cat.
Curse you, He-Man. Some day I'll have the power to destroy you. Some day!
Skeletor 1:4 Statue EX 249/365 - Pop Culture Shock
I got my replacement today so here we go. The statue is really cool! Similar to He-Man, Skeletor really looks like he popped right out of the Funimation cartoon. The 2 jaws are a nice touch as one is more regular Skeletor and the more opened one reminds me more of the laugh at the end of the opening.
The various weapons are hit and miss to me. The sword is kind of underwhelming, the axe is kind of cool but I don't remember him using an axe in the show ever... maybe? However I find the staff to be just a must. The Snake Mountain base is neat with the opening and the flow of lava.
Overall a very cool statue that pairs perfectly with He-Man.
Just got this guy through a trade and he's awesome! When he came out I was just beginning with my first PFs (Joker and Jessica Rabbit), most of my Star Wars pieces were Gentle Giant 1:6 or 1:5 and I wan't sure if I was going to collect many PFs.... riiiiiiight. Plus at the time he was something like $450 which was a lot (good ol' days right?) and I missed both times that Sideshow heavily discounted him (still salty).
He's my second Star Wars PF after Darth Malgus. I'll probably grab Vader but I'm still on the fence for Kylo Ren and Maul due to lack of light-up and price...
Anyway! I really like him, the throne is pretty massive and after futzing with the cloak and hood it display very well. The light up is a bit temperamental on mine but it works and looks great so that's all I ask. It's the first time I took pics mostly in a darker setting because it just fits so much better
Darth Vader ~Lord of the Sith~ 1:4 PF 246/7500 - Sideshow Collectibles
My 3rd Vader after the Kneeling GG and the Mythos. Love him! The base is amazing, the light-up is gorgeous (and it comes with option for battery or AC plug) and the head actually has a pretty decent range of motion. It's certainly better than no motion at all. The head is all light and plastic but it looks just fine so I have no issues with that.
He's going to go next to my Malgus and Emperor for my new Star Wars Sith PF collection awaiting Maul and maybe Kylo Ren.
Simon Belmont (Castlevania) EX 1:4 Statue 54/299 - First 4 Figures
Die Monster! I love this statue! I'm a huge Castlevania fan and frankly we don't have much to put our hands on so this is great. the pose is great, the sculpt is awesome, the whip(!) is amazing!! Check out that 5-O'clock shadow! The cross is a nice touch and the flail is really nice but honestly who wouldn't display him with the awesome Vampire Killer?
Now the execution isn't perfect, his left foot tends to hover ever so slightly and as you can see the base as what appears to be humidity spots. But I don't feel like dealing with a return so I'm just going to say that they're rain spots because obviously near Dracula's castle it's storming...
Now bring us Richter, Alucard and Dracula!
Imprisoned for 10,000 years. Banished from my own homeland.
Illidan Stormrage 1:5 Statue 2233/5000 - Blizzard
What a great statue! I thought I had missed out on it because it wasn't available for purchase during Blizzcon but I checked last week and grabbed it. The details are amazing, it's has great presence and it's very smartly made in the sense that for all the little things that could break it's made sturdy and 'plastic' were it makes sense.
The cherry on the cake really is that it's $350! I know it's 1:5 but I have no doubt SSC would have charged close to $500 for the same piece.
All in all I love it and can't wait for the next Blizz statue..... but I need more space!
La Redemption de Piccolo 1:6 Diorama 1158/2500 - Tsume-Art
This is Tsume's first DBZ statue and the first diorama I got from them. It's outstanding! The details and various textures on the cloth, skin.. the shading on the clouds. Truly gorgeous. It look like it just popped straight out of the anime.
Interestingly the piece is called Chapter 1: Piccolo's Redemption so I'm sure they're going to do more or those and I'm scared because the base is huge and I have no room (tm)
Darth Maul EX 1:4 PF 311/750 - Sideshow Collectibles
It took a while but he's here, and he's... alright.
It's not a bad statue but for some reason I'm not in love with it. It has several issues that basically take the wow factor away for me.
The head sculpt is nice but it's not like the prototype was. It doesn't take batteries, only AC plug and the cable is like 2 feet long... on top of that the light-up basically doesn't work on mine; it turns on for 1-2 secs when I plug it in and that's it. The hand with the full saber barely holds in place to the point that I'm afraid to move the statue in case it gets loose and drops.
So yeah basically I'm not feeling it and I'm probably going to return it for a refund.
