DSLR Camera Recommendations

Just thought I would update everyone that has offered their helpful advice in this thread.

I went to visit my grandparents last weekend so they could see their great-granddaughter, and my grandpa pulled out a Canon Rebel t2i. I told him I was shopping around for a Rebel, and he mentioned that he would soon be selling the t2i and upgrading to the t3i. I asked him to let me know when he was selling the t2i so I could maybe buy it from him, but, and here's the kicker, my grandma insisted that he just give it to me once he got the t3i! So long story short, after all my research, I'm scoring a free Canon Rebel t2i! I'll be getting the kit lens with it, but I definitely want to pick up a 50mm f/1.8 as well.

Quick question for all you DSLR photography enthusiasts out there...

Do I need any additional equipment to successfully swap the lenses back and forth? My grandfather mentioned something about a 50mm UV filter?
