Dying Synthetic Hair?

Anyone have any experience altering the color of synthetic hair, the type that usually comes on 1/6 figure heads? I'm thinking since it's not real that regular hair dye would not work, but I don't know. Anyone ever used any other means?

I've been told synthetic hair couldn't be dyed... however they can be painted!

Any other methods? Or at least one with less "funky fashion?" I'm looking to darken the Cuban Female True Type's hair to dark brown/black.
