It’s was pretty good. I’d say just as bright as the Hot Toys light up sabers but with the batteries being inside the hilt the saber can be held by any hand in any pose rather than be limited to the arm articulation.

Thanks buddy. Helpful as always.

Great! With so many batteries in there, the only remaining question was whether Medicom didn't get the LED to shed enough light through the opening. It seems they actually did, and that the LED-lit lightsaber works great!!

And not only you can choose the pose, jedijim, but you can also use the lightsaber with whatever custom you might create further down the road! Great!

On top of this, and since the blade is detachable, with today's 3D printers you can redo the blade to your own liking. Or even easier: you could use the newer, fancy, swooping HT ones... Has anybody tried to use them on, or adapt them to this Medicom Hilt?

I was considering buying this fig at a very low price (it is ancient) for its hairpiece then I would sell the rest, but now that I have realised it also features this great and unique lightsaber, boy am I all stoked! Only problem I see is the lightsaber being to small/skinny (Medicom figs are smaller than 1/6). Any experience anybody?

Another immediate question: did Medicom do more like this? I once owned the ROTJ Luke, which I think is the only lightsaber waging character that Medicom ever did, but I sold it quickly and don't remember it having a LED-lit lightsaber... Am I wrong?

I just can't believe Medicom achieved this great loose LED-lit lightsaber feature so long ago, and that we are still stuck today with HT's / SSC's forearm-and-hilt solutions. Those Japanese guys, what a bunch of bold designers! Last year some Chinese manufacturer released 2 loose LED-lit lightsabers (you might know which ones I am talking about, I can't find links or pics right now). One was Anakin's the other one Maul's. But as far as I know, those used weird, custom, long and thin batteries, which I don't think could be easily replaceable, if at all. Medicom uses perfectly standard batteries that you can buy anywhere!

I am impressed and confused at the same time: how come there have been for so long batteries so small to fit into a 1/6 lightsaber hilt and nobody but Medicom has ever realised it??? Why isn't Hot Toys using this solution instead of their more restrictive/expensive one?? It might have something to do with battery duration, but heck... Medicom managed to cram 3 batts in that hilt... that should last quite a bit, right? Or maybe the on/off switch on the Medicom is too fragile? But it doesn't look so... There must be some reason, but I can't find it...!

Thanks for any input on this people!
Best,
m.

I’ll see if I can find some comparison pics. The switch for the medi was just a twist of the handle to turn it on. Pretty nice design. The medi blade was fatter than the HT so it may have diffused the light more but with fresh batteries on both I would guess they would be the same brightness.

Medi Jedi saber does not light up. The only other saber they made that lights up was their Darth Vader 2.0 ROTJ. The box has the picture of the figure on it. I never picked that one up.

Medicom Darth Vader 2.0 also had the battery saber and it was good, nice and bright. Why Hot Toys over complicated things is anyone's guess.

Jedijim, I am moved by this. Thanks a lot for this wonderful graphical report and the accompanying info! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for your input too, The Jerker.

I'll definitely have a look into that Vader 2.0. I love mixing old and new, especially if the old is so good and unique!

Has anybody tried to use HT blades (e.g. the swooping one) on the light-up Medicom hilt? Results?

Thanks again everyone.
m.

Not that I’m aware of. I think the medi blades are wider than the HT blades and won’t fit in the hilts.
