It doesn't allow your eyes to focus like they do normally--it needs eye tracking so that it can adjust the convergence point to match how your eyes work in real life--think of how you might have trouble looking at things further away after looking at a computer screen all day. But, that effect is very minimal, you won't likely be using it enough for that to be a problem. Other things will always improve--screen resolution, refresh rates, etc. The ones that are coming out are likely to be using 2k resolution screens which is better than what we have right now. But probably the more ideal point is to have 4k screens. The only issue there is that most people aren't going to be able to run games at that resolution.

This is coming bundled with the rift.. Unfortunately the rift is $600!! :lol

I hope this won't be exclusive to that headset, I have been more interested in the HTC Vive for sometime now and having seen the price of the rift, it makes sense to wait and see what that offers.

Highly doubt it'll be exclusive to Oculus--especially since it's coming to PS4

Glad I did the original kickstarter since they're giving everyone a free consumer version.

It is exclusive to the Rift on PC, so no Vive compatibility. Oculus actually funded the development of the game.

I got a pre-order for the Rift in as soon as it went up. $600 is alot. It's more than I was expecting, but it's custom made down to the screws and Oculus is selling at cost, so I wasn't entirely surprised.

Do you really believe they are selling this at cost though? I'm not so sure. The price sucks, but I expected it anyway TBH. Early adopters of most new tech ideas get shafted. I'd already resided myself to the fact that it may be the V2 version of the rift or Vive to get in order for it to make sense financially... And for the hardware to run it properly to catch up without costing an arm and a leg also.

Shame this is a rift exclusive though...

Hard to say, but I personally can believe it. When you see them explain what has gone into making the Rift and how every single component had to be custom made for it (even the fabric mesh used for the housing is designed specifically for the Rift), it starts to sound more and more plausible. Especially when you consider the low numbers they're probably projecting to sell. The more they manufacture, the cheaper the cost, but this is a very niche product.

Yeah, being a day one adopter is always a losing proposition, but when you're a diehard enthusiast, you accept the cons with the pros. I believe in VR and the Rift in particular enough to take the plunge. I know it will be very much worth it for me. The first couple years are going to be lean for Oculus, but they know that though. It's going to be a good while before VR is affordable enough on PC to be a huge money maker for them. In the meantime, they're using the Gear VR to try and penetrate the mainstream market.

They possibly developed their own screen controller chip, which originally was something that they couldn't do and would be really expensive to buy the part that supports refresh rates higher than 60fps
