Bush could release some of the 700 million barrels of oil in our emergency reserve. Clinton did it and oil prices dropped 18%. I seriously doubt he cares though.

With six months left on the "job", why would he care?

What can our government do to lessen the oil prices? Bomb someone? Stop using oil?

Plus most of the highest ranking officials right now own large shares of oil companies and oil profiteering companies.

Who do you want us to complain to?

anyone, everyone. as time goes on and the prices get higher, the wack jobs will be stealing tank fulls of gas, then entire 18 wheelers, and finally will resort in acts like burning down gas stations. obviously our compliant silence won't lower the prices. when people decide to directly hold elected officials responsible, maybe we'll see some headway when their jobs are in danger. anything is better than seeing the prices continue to rise for lame reasons like opec predictions.

didn't someone come up with a hydrogen based engine way back in the 50s? another solution squashed by the oil companies.

hydrogen based engine is too dangerous. U get into an accident, you blow up like an atom bomb. *wink*

I am waiting for many of the stores in my area to go belly up.

its already happening in my town. several restaurants have closed their doors since the first of the year. it sucks, and in fact i feel like its gonna be like Demolition Man when there's only the food chain restaurants left.
who wants to only eat at Taco Bell??

NOT ME!!:monkey4 TACO BELL SUCKS!!!!

i think i am going to start riding a horse everywhere.
sure, it'll take a while but it seems that it will be hella cheaper in the long run.

It's not just the speculators. China and India both use 2 barrel of oil a year per person. In the US it's 10 barrels per person. As China and India become more developed, the demand will just increase.

Unfortunately the only short-term solution for the US is to allow off-shore drilling. The technology has significantly improved since the disaster off Santa Barbara 40 years ago.

now the latest lame excuse of barrels selling at a record $143 is because the dollar is weak. no crap. next it will be because the sky is blue. looks like the *******s that attacked the twin towers accomplished what they were trying to do. it just took seven more years to show it's affects. if you don't think bush is in bed with the saudis and that is also why bin laden hasn't been brought to justice for 911, then you're not sharing your drugs with the rest of us.

Nope, I guess I'm keeping them all to myself.

Good luck on letting the libs let us drill, theyre actually proposing more gas taxes! Talk about being disconnected from the people.

thats what we need to do, this will have a increase in future supplies, and drive the speculators to back the f off. And while were doing that start really developing an alternative energy source.

But then again a thunderstorm might happen in Utah or I might suggest prices will rise in the future.

The end of the world is nigh. There is too much demand, there are too many people. From now on support homosexuality, support the war effort, spread disease and when the stuff hits the fan, give suicide a shot.

Alternative energy like hydrogen, sugar ethanol, electricity (which could be nuclear or wind or hydro generated) are how to keep the cars running in the long term.

Regarding off-shore drilling it does seem like it could help in the short term. However think about a hurricane in the Gulf with bunches of rigs all around. The technology is good - but a strong hurricane could make all that moot.

Oil is definitely not the way to go. The price of oil is, at least, forcing the issue, through political means, to invest in the development of alternative fuel sources, which the oil companies wont do, because they want to protect their profits. The changing of the guard is what the oil companies are more afraid of, and they want to come out of this with their finger planted firmly in the pie. Hydro/water cars will eventually and be the norm, which makes people with new cars way out of pocket. There is going to be a heap of hurt coming. Water will be the new oil.

Solar isn't going to work anytime soon. Germany which is probably the world leader in Solar energy has 37 acres of solar panels that services 10,000 households.
NJ Has 3,064,645 households which means it would require 11,400 acres to provide energy for its citizens.
The only problem is that NJ only covers an area of 4480 acres.

Kind of ironic though that its being stopped by environmentalists.
