Hey 2001 fans - Executive Replicas has finally worked out a deal with JazzInc to make the 1/6 scale EVA POD.
Here's a copy of the announcement by Joost Assink in the JazzInc Facebook group, and a link to it; JOIN that group and say YES if you're interested in pre-ordering one... or three! It's great to see that my 5+ years of research on this project will finally end with a product release. ($1,100 is a good price- I was expecting $1,500 or more.)

"Together with Executive Replicas we have been working on an officially licensed EVA-Space Pod from 2001 A Space Odyssee. We will be able to offer these at $1100 through our website. It will have interior and exterior lights, removeable magnetic door and fully articulated arms, hands and fingers. We just need to know who will support this project. Can you reply YES to this post if you are serious about pre-ordering this?"

Great news. In the comments to the post, JazzInc indicated new figures will be made. Do you know anything about this? My concern is that the existing suits are not very flexible, and forcing the figures into a sitting pose will damage the suits.

I don't know anything more than you about it; I saw Joost's comment too. Maybe the suits/figures will be re-releases of the same ER patterns, but I doubt it. I think JazzInc will release new figures with improved sculpts, more accurate helmets and suit designs, but it's only a wishful guess on my part.

I would assume ER is still the license holder on the property, so new figures would most likely be with them. Unless, of course, they are unlicensed. is 2001 a WB property?
ER has the license, but I assume they can choose who they wish to do the tooling and manufacturing. If they choose JazzInc, so be it. It's also possible that JazzInc also has the license, not ER exclusively, and it's a joint effort.

I have a feeling a video showing the interior of the prototype, showing the door opening and closing, etc. would get me to preorder. I need a better idea of scale as well
The dimensions will be 14" tall, 16" wide, (including the dome-shaped side thrusters) and 14.75" front-to-back (not including tactile arms.) The interior will be fully lit, but I imagine it will be a while before we get a video clip of that. I'll put a word in to ER about it.
