Reading between the lines of Nanjin's post, I certainly hope that a new EXO-6 version of TNG Picard is not being pushed back because of the QMX version being previously released. I'm sure that I spoke for just about every ST collector that an EXO-6 TNG Picard is most wanted, as soon as possible!

I believe, the reason is: it is impossible to release all characters at once. And since we`ve just had one version of Picard, there is time for other Trek characters, like DSN and Voy

It is being push back because of precious version.

Is unfair for me to terminate my production after 2 years of EXO-6 operation. I will never do such a thing. I am not going to shoot myself. (Is all related).

Harsh and cruel way to describe, TOS and TNG were screwed by someone, and covered with load of shxt.

Won't let TOS and TNG spilling their shxt to other Trek and spread the stinky smell. TOS and TNG also need time to clean the shxt that came with them. They need to be hose down thoroughly.

TOS and TNG fans can only blame someone else other than me. I like those the most, and I couldn't produce them. I hate it more than anyone in the entire universe.

Unfortunate to hear that about Picard, but it is understandable. Luckily there are plenty of other popular characters from TNG to release that should help with the wait. And those of us that have the QMX Picard at least have a placeholder until the EXO version comes out.

Ah so it’s making sense now. TOS and TNG are getting delays because of the QMX releases.

So other unreleased characters or alternate versions are okay, but not direct versions that were made by QMX?

So why Kirk and Picard aren’t in their main duty uniforms and why we’re getting Mirror Spock versus a normal Spock.

Pushing back the captain of TNG in its anniversary year?

Been awhile since I did this but I wanted to share. I made no bones about how strongly I dislike the Exo 6 FC Picard sculpt so I repainted my QMX TNG to age him out a bit. So happy with this now I think I also took off the odd fat suit on his upper body also.

Wow! That's a fantastically realistic paint job. Next level stuff that brings the sculpt to life. Reminds me of the recent Asmus Gandalf sculpt that looks like the future of where figures should be headed.

That was my fear.

So the previous company's oversaturation of the market with those particular figures is what is the cause for the delay. Makes sense, unfortunately.

I personally will be replacing each of those older figures with the newer EXO-6 versions immediately upon pre-ordering. I want to make sure that I have the best version available, not to mention that the uniforms are standardized. Still, I would rather have the TOS and TNG crews sooner rather than later. Those are my favorites.

it may be selective characters for TOS and TNG QMX as mirror mirror is still TOS nanjin and QMX showed a lot of prototypes I can only assume QMX has some sort of rights to which delays Exo from picking them up… unfortunately that includes most of the TNg crew and the Kahn Kirk and Spock.

uhura and checkov are my most wanted two. They are pretty near the bottom of my favorite characters list but the OS crew needs to be complete.

I don’t recall seeing an uhura but I think checkov was shown by QMX. Either way I trust nanjin would be doing them if he could be. I trust in the future he will help is complete our crews… In the mean time I’m excited to see what’s next even if it’s figures I have no interest in like voyager or discovery I think it’s very important those characters get made also.

thank you for the kind comments I really appreciate it!

I still give a lot of credit to this (“that”) sculpt as a great base to work with but it’s pretty incredible what paint can do to transform a sculpt. As nanjin mentioned the time it takes for custom sculpts might eat into the profit a bit. The asmus Gandalf is interesting as it’s partially mass produced partially hand made which is why it costs about 500 bucks I think.

most of the time mass releases can produce ok results. I think Exo6’s overall paint quality is pretty top notch to be honest, it was the overall head sculpt I didn’t feel was as solid a base in likeness as the TNG QMX one

but indeed mass production can take away the fine details or likeness nuance of a sculpt the genericness is probably due to those tiny imperfections or asymmetrical qualities of a face that’s pretty hard to bring out with mass production techniques.

while I’m skilled at painting i limit my repaints for my own collection… I prefer to do overall art direction or prototype painting for collectible companies as opposed to individual commissions. I’m a perfectionist and I take my time so if I took commissions I’d probably make more money at McDonald’s.

I do go into most of my pass produced figures even the hot toys and tweak them with paint touch ups. People underestimate how important things like eyebrows are to a likeness. It can literally make or break it… I think that’s one of the bigger issues with the Exo FC head… his eyebrows are pretty off.

Yeah if there's one thing I might tweak on my FC Picard it's those eyebrows. His skin tone is also far more tanned and orangy than I'd prefer (and the EMH appears to suffer from the same thing), but that's always a harder thing to fix without a full repaint.

Is it even possible, without a full repaint?

Not to speak for DaveJames but generally speaking if a skin tone is too dark it’s almost impossible to lighten it up. If it’s just a bit too warm but the overall lightness is correct. a trick that I’ve used in the past that actually works is to give it a cool filter of sorts by airbrushing a thin speckled layer of transparent blue paint. Another method that actually works just is well is to brush on a coat of sky blue chalk pastel and then seal it with a matte clear spray coat. Subsequently this trick also works if you’re trying to warm up a sculpt as well with warmer colors

I kind of managed it with my Venkman figure by applying several thin washes of a light gray wash. But it was a pain to do.
You sound like some kind of magician... Does it take a lot of practice? I'm always so afraid to ruin something in the figure, while I try to fix things. Especially those, that are rare and hard to replace. Usually end up learning to accept it, as it is.

I’ve thought about trying to repaint a few sculpts (not specifically Trek ones), but I’ve never had the guts to do it. I feel like I would mess it up worse and just be mad at myself.
