So…?

Would love to see a side by side with the production piece, not to compare paint apps, but to see if the production piece is actually narrower. I always had the feeling that the sculpt had become squished in production.

No one is sure. NT kinda made it sound like this was the original paint master for Seven, but I’m not sure that’s true. His post was about this is how good the paint could be with unlimited time and money for each piece. But maybe someone with the inside track on the story can clarify.
So basically acknowledging the paint isn’t really up to par oftentimes..

But with an explanation that if you want that level of paint it would be more expensive and take more time.
I mean sure but still kind of an excuse for a subpar paint job on some of the sculpts.

If it was any other company the criticisms would come left and right. Star Trek fans seem blinded by being told no one else will make them so accept it or not.

You are right it is a excuse, but it is one that rings true. Trek fans wouldn't pay Hot Toys prices for a 7 of 9 figure. Plus no one is making these figures, and QmX dropped the ball because they made the same mistake all the others do, (make the big three and when sales drop off end the line.)

So compromises have to be made to get the product into a decent price range.

It's less about being blinded and more about understanding.

Do you really think people would buy a 300 plus Paris, Kim, or Neelix, let alone another company be willing to make them?

The figures are creeping up in price though. We’re not at Hot Toys pricing quite yet, but a lot of the newer figures are getting to be closer to $230 unless you opt for the barebones versions when that’s an option.

Also Seven of Nine was one of the more pricey figures partially because they wasted so much time and resources on developing a specialized body. I’d have preferred better paint on the sculpt. One of the reasons I passed on that figure.

Everything has been going up in price. You can't expect Exo6 to be immune to rising costs.

We just have to disagree on 7 of 9. I can easily have her repainted, but finding a body that is more accurate, and having to deal with removing that outfit from the stock body is just something I'd rather not deal with.

I basically did pay Hot Toys prices for 7 of 9 😆

I wish these figures were up to the standard of HT, but I suppose Star Trek really isn't as popular as other franchises. No other company would delve deep into the line, so chances are a company like HT would only make a handful of characters and call it a day.

EXO’s biggest issue is consistency, something HT is reliable on. Just this past week or so we saw Hoshi vs. Kruge, such a drastic variance. I’m fairly content with the TNG line so far, I’m just crossing my fingers that they deliver a quality TNG Picard worthy of the character.

But for sure if a company like HT or InArt ever made the crew, I’d pick it them up.

HT been around for decades. So of course their consistency is going to be better. If you look at their early figures though, you can see they were just as inconsistent.

HT and InArt won’t touch Trek. If they did we’d get the big three and they’d call it a day.

Aftermarket? Yeah some of Exo’s figures in the aftermarket command a high price. I need a second Quark, but can’t find a decent price anywhere
No, in Australia it was around $350 to $400 if I recall. Most of the Trek figures are getting up to those prices for preorders now. Some of the older ones were cheaper.

I wouldn’t hang my hat on the fact that HT being around longer is the primary reason for the consistency issue with EXO. They have shown on multiple occasions that they can perform at a particular level, from an outsider looking in, it appears to be an operational choice more than anything on whether a character and/or line gets the top tier refinement.

Perhaps they simply do not want to incur the expense on top talent for series or characters they presume to be less main stream. Even if that’s the case, they’re a small company so they have to hedge their resources on the best ROI - it’s not a criticism but a likely reality.

In Australia prices maybe getting close to HT prices, but from Exo6 own website most of the figures are still sub 250. Where most Hot Toys preorders are over 250 with most hovering around 300.

Guys,

As one of the custom 1/6 collector for the past 15 years, I will say getting just a head painted can set you back anywhere from $350-$600 these days. As the saying goes “ you get what you pay for “ no way around this.

With EXO, their full figures at $250-$325 is still a ok deal if you are a ST fan. The heads sadly are a bit or miss and all over the map because they use different sculptors and some just cannot capture the likeness but where they have always shine is the clothing. Custom clothing runs are now running around $450-$650 alone for context.

As for EXO using less talent for the lines that are not as good sellers, I don’t think that is happening because a sculptor in general will be about the same from 3D printing to hand sculptor these days. The original QMX Kirk was made by a sculptor who uses 3D printing and it was one of their best work to date. There might be a slight variance but not much these days as everyone wants a slice of the pie.

Where EXO often lapse is I believe he will many times refuse to see the light on some of the sculptures which is the only and main weakness.
