Yep, one of the three friends (Ethan Hawke) dreams about a computer diagram and his friend makes it out of spare parts - it generates the bubble. I randomly remembered this movie recently and was telling my wife how awesome it was and how it was Hawke's first film. Then she watched it me when I rented it on Netflix - still haven't heard the end of it...

BTW, nice profile pic, I love the Myth of Tao figures.
