Ok.
Just sayin'.
Just sayin'.
Globally today, a lot more muslims probably support Shariah than those that don't.
The Quran taught equal rights of men and women long before the concept became accepted in the modern world

As an example, a sign of the respect afforded to women in Islam is evidenced by this story:
A man once asked the Prophet to whom he should show the most kindness. The Prophet replied: "Your mother, next your mother, next your mother, and then your father." (Sunan of Abu-Dawood)
The Puritans were a fringe group. Not that it's a terribly important difference, but there weren't many to choose from.
Yeah. Those interpreting Islam in the manner we're discussing are not a fringe group.
The Massachusetts Witch Hysteria of 1692 occurred well after the European witch-hunts under the Inquisition. Over two centuries after the Malleus Malificarum was published. They were also Protestant, whereas the European idiocy was primarily Catholic.
So yeah, when the Puritans were being theocratic tyrants in Massachusetts, they were a fringe group. Not sure how it excuses theocratic ambitions in Islam either way. Moral equivalence to witch-hunters isn't exactly a credit to that great majority of Sharia devotees.
