Personally I don't see anything wrong with this. Yeah he may have not paid the tuition, but he received absolutely nothing from this. The only thing he gets out of it is the extra education for him self, but not a single thing proving it. Plus it is said they believe he has not examined patients or received any patient information. So whats your alls thoughts? Should he be punished by law? Or should they just simply "ban" him from the campus

Agreed. Plus this was AFTER he got denied for admission in 2010. So it's not like he didn't try to get an education the "right" way.

I always wondered about something like this. What if someone showed up for classes and didn't pay for them. Jack Black even jokes about it in Orange County. I can't believe someone did it, and that person is awesome lol. I hope nothing happens to him. is not like he broke the law or hurt someone or anything

At the school I went to there were a few people there who would just attend classes because they were interested in learning about the subject, not that it counted for anything. I think that's perfectly fine.

The trouble with this is where he might ultimately have decided to apply his newly acquired but completely uncredited 'skills'.

The other issue is insurance, and the university's liability to its faculty and students in the event of a claim.

Banning is warranted, but 'punished by law' - ie trespass etc - unlikely and over the top.

I'm working towards a minor in Japanese studies. Last year, one of the language classes was filled up, but the professor allowed me to attend anyway. Regardless of not paying for the course, she didn't mind grading my homework or exams :lol. I also have friends who have attended classes and lectures for courses that they didn't officially register for.

The University of Auckland is being unnecessarily **** about this. It's not like the guy ever came into contact with a patient. He just attended classes under the radar and did homework.

I can see how a med student is kinda bad because that deals with something very serious and important.
but if someone is going to a class they did not pay about something like say English or Math or something, I see no problem. I guess the problem is that this was a Med student

I read comments on I think Facebook that were complaining saying he might try and get a job as a MD or something after he was done going to all the classes. I don't know how the hell he would be able to fake every certification he would need to show to get a job. Some people are just not very bright :lol

Some people are. Look at Frank Abignale. :lecture

I might have an unpopular opinion here, but. . .the school and instructors should be paid for a student receiving the service provided by taking a course. It's not that different than any other kind of business transaction. Whether or not the student will get the degree isn't really relevant from that POV. He received a service of a sort, and didn't pay for it.

No I'm with you. It's like going out to eat and not paying. :lol

Well everyone deserves to eat right? :rotfl

I am disappointed in my fellow freaks for having not yet posted the obvious Star Trek reference..."He deserves a commendation for original thinking".

Personally, if I were in the correct position to do so, I would find out what was on the guys mind as this can be very good or very bad.

Someone with this kind of guts can do a lot of good in the correct setting.

Well my reference fits the same mold. Frank Abignale ran amok world wide. The FBI gives him a job. :lol

If we can have a fake president, what the heck why not a fake med student. Heck the student has probably done more good.

The President was actually elected (denial of which is sour grapes at not having had a candidate that could beat him), but since this student has done nothing with his knowledge yet, I'd say the second part of your statement is accurate.

Not a good analogy. It's more like going to a restaurant and not getting any food - aside from the free one-week old stale bread that's better left alone. Many restaurants don't particularly care about that either - in NYC anyway :lol.
