So I've been working on my family tree for a while now and I've had some good progress but have a hard time finding some things. Was wondering if anyone else was into family trees and what resources are out there (free is preferable). Also ever find out something ya didn't know about fairly close family? Most of my family lives in the same area as myself and we're all kinda close BUT I was surprised to find out that one of my cousins was now doing stunt work out in CA. When I saw the amount of stuff she's done and who she doubled for I was just like "woah!". Any one else ever run into something like that? :lol

This is something i would like to do one day if only to pass down to my kids the importance of beginnings and family.

Had a phone call once from another family with the same surname that were doing a family tree and discovered we were related to a woman that used to be on the old $5 australian note, nice if it had been the $100.:D

My wife is really into this stuff(mostly because of her grandmother). Shes directly related to George Washington(we actually have a bunch of his crap in our house i'd love to sell :naughty....but i've been told that would lead to my death so...:() i'll ask her what her and her grams have used in the past to locate other family members.

My Great Uncle was an Obersturmbahnfuhrer in the SS...

I've known that for years, but it explains a lot...

Also, without revealing my real name, if around 700 years ago my family had married into the other family that married into them instead, my surname would be Von Schtauffen...

700 YEARS? WOW! I've only got back to the 1700s, and not even with my surname lol BUT apparently my great-great-grandmother's family at one point lived in Wales :D My great-great-grandmother herself is from Lancashire.

And Marc, Im assuming that should be www.familysearch.org? lol

My ancestor Ugg invented the wheel! My families riches eventually ran out once the patent expired, we're poor now.:monkey3

The good thing is, most people with my surname are actually related...

And they all pitch in...

I can trace mine all the way back to ancient Rome. :joy

Haha must be nice. Unfortunately for me, my surname was hacked and changed with so many variations it's hard to trace. I've found my surname spelled with one S, two S's, and a Z so far. That's why Im tracing my British/Welsh family: because it's easier. :lol I've heard stories that someone in my family traced back a line to a lord in England. I should probably get on the ball and call them.

My Grandpa did the research for his side of the family, only thing of note was being related to Captain Kidd. I still want to do a more thorough one and try to trace it back a bit further.
